SEARCH TOOLS

This isn't actually a search engine, it's one level higher.  This tool allows you to quickly search for highlighted text using a variety of engines.  You can configure any of these websites and more.  Sometimes it takes a little work, but in general it's quite easy. SmartSearch   (information posted in my Favorite Firefox extensions thread)

I'll have to bookmark those. Thanks, mackerdack.

I use the old standby's of mysimon.com and pricegrabber.com - froogle's a bit of a newfound favorite, but I don't like the fact that I haven't yet figured out how to sort from lowest to highest price and there seem to be a lot of spurious results in my searches there.

It's not exactly a "search engine", but I use www.biddingfortravel.com in much the same way as a search engine for travel-related products such as hotel rooms, plane tickets and rental cars booked through priceline. It will tell you exactly what people have successfully bid for in your area, so you know about what you will have to pay in a given area for a hotel room or a ticket.

Original discussion thread on shipping rate search

If you like the idea of linking to seperate discussion thread subcategories, to keep things a little more organized, maybe you would like to create similar threads, or find existing ones to link to.

OTOH, it would require mackerdack to check the add'l threads.... But, it might make "yay or nay" discussions a little easier....although editing the initial post makes a good quick reference, more specifically defined sub-threads make it easier to follow opinions on what's good, what's crap, and why....

I like your idea of linking to discussions about various types of engines. As I find them or am notified of them (by members posting here or PMing me), I'll add the links. Thanks wurlybird9!!!

IShip is mentioned already in my shipping thread. Please see the discussion there. I liked Intershipper much better, because the rates were much more comprehensive. (fedex and airborne ground, etc).

B$ discussion thread: Gas Prices

I think a discussion is helpful here, because Miranda's link for example, while it may work for her, doesn't give any results in my area.

I have good results with
www.gaspricewatch.com

and best results using this site, which is actually a portal site to sites covering specific states and metro areas:
www.gasbuddy.com

Please report any additions in my thread. Thanks for your patronage! smile.gif

I just found this site for video games.

http://www.gametab.com/pricetabber/

In addition to comparing prices at certain stores, it shows changes in prices for games within the past 24 hrs, 48 hrs, or the past week. Plus, it also searches news headlines for whatever game you search for... it searches as far back as April 24th, 2003.

Another one for video games. I think it's from the same people who made dvdpricesearch.com. It was launched around the same time, but it wasn't very useful back then, but now it is. smile.gif

Before parking your car at the airport, be sure to check Airport Discount Parking

Once there, you give them your departure airport and date and they give you the daily/weekly parking deals for your date/airport. They deal with all major off-site parking companies and typically offer a nice savings over the regular price, other lots, and the on airport property lots.

Of course, they provide free shuttle service to/from the terminal. They also usually offer free coffee/espresso, candy, and ice cream. They also will have your car running with the AC/heat on for you, when your plane lands and you call them to pick you up.

Special deal for those departing Jet Blue from JFK!!! Get two free days (additional days $12.56 +tax) by going through THIS LINK.
