Argh! I have a PDF of a book that was published in 1939 and is now out of print. It is not searchable, so I tried using OCR to make it searchable, but the *&^%$ is password protected and allows only printing. I have Acrobat Professional 7.0. I could print out all 600 pages and then scan them into Word, but that would be a royal PITA. Does anyone have a way of getting around the password protection?

TIA!

If you have Acrobat Pro 7.0 installed, the following SHOULD work:

Print the file to the "Adobe PDF Printer" giving the output a new filename. You should end up w/ an unlocked PDF file. wink.gif

I do the above w/ USPS.COM generated printer labels all the time. I can't print them to the PDF Writer in Acrobat 5, but in Acrobat 7 it works like a champ. smile.gif

Not much help but look at this page and the replies:

that said, http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloa..._pdf_file_info/

Encrypt PDF files with passwords and gives you a high degree of control, letting you allow or disallow such actions as changing, printing, copying, extracting, signing, filling, assembling or merging a PDF file. With this utility, you may decrypt PDF files as well.

Interesting method, Diggler, I'll check that out too!

There are utilities that will do it as well. I know I've used one before, if I find it I'll let you know. But if TheDiggler's idea works, that's your best option. It seems like it will work to me.

Thanks Diggler, but I tried that and get an annoying message to the effect that the file was password protected and I couldn't "print" it -- and I have Adobe 7 professional. It's so irritating.

Monga, thanks for the sites. I'll check 'em tomorrow!

n99nyrwg, if you find anything else, PLMK.

Thanks!

UPDATE: n99nyrwg helped me out. Thanks n99nyrwg!!!
