While I was downloading tons of music from the internet last night, a pop-up says I ran out of space on the F (f for fun!) drive.
Then it asked me if I want to do something to release more space, and brough four options:
1, (i forgot what this one was);
2, empty recycle bin (98 MB);
3, compress old files (1987 MB);
4, empty word related files (0 MB).
That's two giga bits of empty space just by compressing old files!
Is this a good thing to do if I need to access the files on a weekly base?
it's okay if you need the space. the compress guy is smart where they define old files by files that haven't been touched in like months. however, access to them when you do need them will definitely be slower.
given how cheap harddrive space is nowadays, I'd just suggest to get a new one and just add or replace your current drive.
do note, compressing 2gb of information may take the entire day (bit exaggerated, but not far from truth).
