I've seen these online for $1000 to $1600, but the lower priced sellers have not been reputable. Can my B$ friends help me find a good price? I'm countin' on ya!

I can't find that exact model number. Please look here and confirm which model number you're interested in.
I see:
  • TH-42PX6U
  • TH-42PX60U <- this one?
Assuming you mean the TH-42PX60U:If you buy it from J&R or eCost, you probably don't pay tax.

If you buy from your local Sears or Circuit City & PM to CompUSA, you can get it for $1258.99.

Yes, that's the one. Sorry for the confusion. eyehide.gif

Is the CompUSA price good enough for you?

Or are you willing to go with a less-well-known company in order to get a better price?

If one is near an American store, the price is $20 less than CompUSA. I would suspect to get your business they would match the PM of Sears or CC. Also if one want a service plan, American's price of $130 for 3 years is a decent deal , IMHO.

I don't mind trying a less-well-known site, or even waiting a bit for a sale. I "purchased" this same TV for $1030 plus $88 shipping, but it turned out to be a flaky outfit that took my order but never shipped (and now doesn't answer their phone!) I need to stay in the $1100-$1200 ballpark, shipped, if possible.

I'll keep watching too. Appreciate the help.

I was stuck on this set until I saw the samsung which is a little more. I've also seen an LG that Americantv has a 300 rebate (until february 1) on bringing it to a net of 1349. Unless everybody is setting up the Panasonic to look really bad it just looks like there may be other TV's worth looking at around the same price point with better blues whites and darks and less glare

Look for reviews of the TV at AVS Forum.

You can't really go by how the TV's look at the store. Often, the picture is via a poor feed. The lighting will also be completely different than what's in your home. And they never adjust the sets for a good picture at the store. Read what others have to say about it, and if they were able to get a good picture.

I know what your saying there Garsh and am starting to use that forum for more information 9thanks to the post in my infor request thread) as well as consumer reports and the way they look in a store. What's interesting though is I've gone to 4 different sores now and the Panasonic has the same issues at each of them it whites are not as white (almost a little yellow) the blacks arent as well defined and the blues arent as crisp. I have thought they might be pushing the TV's with more margin in them but as much as I liked this set consistently the samsung (and even the LG) seemed to look better. A sales person at American TV told me that Samsung is the only one using a 14 bit processor but i'm not into the technical side enough to knw if that really is why the picture consistently looks better (or whsythe pricepoint is consistently $300 higher)

Consistent with your argument store lighting is store lighting. One thing the LG had going for it that a sales person showed me is it dosent glare as much because the picture isnt recessed behind the glass. I plan on spending some time this weekend in the avs forum trying to learn and asking some questions. Its just such a subjective to buy based on otheres expereinces and not believe your own eyes (and a big purchase at that) all that being said I'm also starting to lean toward waiting for costco to open sometime I think in the next couple of months I hope.

For such a big purchase (and you will have to face it everyday), I would definitely not fix my eyes on just one model. I would go to Costco and see what's in display. Side by side comparation will help a lot! smile.gif

Pricegrabber search for TH-42PC60U
Froogle search for TH-42PC60U, $500 & up, low to high price

From the pricegrabber list, it looks like Tri-state & Etronics might be OK to order from, but by the time you add in shipping, you're probably close to the CompUSA price.

Please use the following websites to determine if a dealer is reputable:
Where/Where Not to Purchase Your Camera (applies to TVs too)
Reseller Ratings

Good luck! smile.gif
