I have used TaxCut Deluxe for years. In past years I always had purchased software by now. All the office stores have always been competing to out-do themselves with multiple incentives free with the purchase. Where are the deals this year?

Have you seen any? I got TaxCut Premium Federal + State software "free" in the mail without requesting it. It appeared to be free, but to be activated, it would cost $29.95. Inside was also included a $10 rebate for those who choose to buy at a retail store instead of activating this. What are you regular e-filers doing this year?

I had one of the Staples $50 off $100 coupons emailed to some people, that expired 12/31. Staples has a bunch of FAR software when purchased with TC so selected a couple to get over $100 and used the coupon. Then was able to pricematch their $29.99 for TC Premium Fed and State to Target's price of $24.99, shown in this week's ad.

I was planning on putting together a couple combo deals with coupons at Staples and/or OD this evening - stay tuned
This year, it appears that a lot of that FAR software is being paid via a VISA debit card instead of by check. I guess the glory days of tax software deals may be over.
i had my eye on that taxcut flashdrive - but am waiting for a better deal - amazon had it for $29.99 (shipped free no tax) but the price went up a bit in the last few days to $32.99
i just can't find any verification that there may be a rebate form in the box!
Thanks everyone for your replies so far! Let me add that the $10 rebate included in the box was for purchases from Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Frys, Microcenter, Office Depot, Staples and Target.
Don't forget that you can e-file taxes for free again (both fed and state) if you have a State Farm policy or bank account registered at statefarm.com. They have a deal with Turbotax Online for this and it's completely free, I did it last year.
If you don't have a policy with them, it's pretty easy to open a savings account with a $100 deposit, or just get one of their credit cards and stick it in a drawer.

Also be aware that unless you have the most basic of tax filing needs Turbo Tax is always the better choice over TaxCut. I get both each year just to get the extra FAR items. I help several friends do their taxes as well as our own, of course, and each year enter the data into each program. TurboTax has been more in depth and resulted in higher tax refunds every year. If you have any contest winnings or 1099'ed prizes received Turbo tax is a must have. The year I won the Nissan Xterra TT saved me big time as it followed the IRS tax rules on depreciating the value of winnings, where Taxcut did not even have the ability to override it's non depreciated values let alone figure the lesser tax basis for you. The only time that the two programs come out relatively equal is on a very basic filing, standard deduction, little or no investment income and no other special circumstances.

this is good information - i have been using taxcut and am partial to keep consistent with the software - i suppose i could try out turbo tax - IIRC, TT should allow me to import my TC data in from last year!
After reading all the rebate deals until my eyes were red, I decided to go ahead with your suggestion. I just opened a savings account and will mail in my deposit to get it established. Thanks very much for your help!

I hope they can put Microsoft Money as one of the FAR items. I have never used one of these softwares before. I had only salary and stock gains last year, would that be very complicated to use a software?

The best deal I have seen for Taxcut this year is at Staples through today. They have Taxcut Deluxe+State for $24.99 with a $10 Staples gift check, and there is 12% off your entire order through today for F&F (that's 12% off $24.99, or $3). You can get Money Deluxe (not just standard) free after rebate, plus you actually save 12% on that, too.

You can also add other FAR softwares/with tax software purchase to use higher value coupons.

I need to file two state tax return. How can I buy additional state tax software?. TaxCut offers only Federal plus one state return.

I believe (** although I've never had to do this) that TaxCut lets you purchase (or activate) additional state products when you install the software. I'm not positive about that, though, but I seem to recall being asked when I did the install last year.
