have Linksys WRT54GS V1.1 and got this brainstorm to upgrade the firmware, upgraded it to v 4.71.1 and I think thats the worst idea I've ever had
system is constantly losing connection and then coming back up every minute or so it seems

any recomendations on better firmware then what Linksys is putting out and where can I find it to work on my version?

If you don't need/want 3rd party firmware, and if you haven't already done so, FACTORY RESET the adapter. Many times this cures problems as it resets router settings to what the new firmware version wants things to be.
