Suppose you have a rebate that appears online, i.e its status can be tracked etc, but its past the time that the manufacturer specified for it to get paid;you call up the rebate center and they tell you that it may take some more time for it to get paid- they generally say it will be mailed "very soon", the "very soon" part subject to interpretation.

e.g OM rebates handled by easierrebates.com

I am interested in knowing what people can do in such a situation other than just waiting for the rebate to show up.

easierrebates.com is a new rebate processing company for OfficeMax rebates.

most people are still figuring out how to deal with them.

I have read that it is difficult to get a hold of CSRs for that company.

--------------

You can file complaints with the FTC since they are not paying on time or call up OfficeMax corporate and complain.......

other than that...........just have to wait.

I call back every few days and remind them that they are overdue on paying the rebate.

That reminds me..........

Also..............if you tie up their phone lines and keep harassing the rebate company, then they will actually pay up sooner..........

Handling the phone calls will cost them money. The best thing to do is get other people to call them up too. If their phone lines are jammed, then the rebate company will have to either hire more people or just cough up the cash sooner.

(they could have long waits on the phone...but that would just make customers even more irate)

Here is the article on the FTC's website about rebates:

It's very specific that they have to pay the rebate out on time, but it's hard to enforce. If you threaten calling the FTC, or even if you actually to file a complaint, then they will just say that it was held up because you didn't submit it properly.

here is some $2.11 shipped screen cleaner. doubt it works better than damp cloth, but for two bucks I'll try it!

The FTC thingy was what I was interested in. I guess most people cannot do much other than wait until they grow old. If only the FTC made the rules stringent for the rebate companies, since the rebate companies make rules so hard for us....

i had filled out 2 rebates from december 2002 and still have not recieved them. i finally called on them yesterday. one from western digital and one from circuit city. both claimed they mailed them, and both were very cooperative and polite. they said they would 'stop payment' on the current checks they had sent out that weren't cashed, and send out new checks. so all i had to do was call and tell them my address and name, they had record of everything else, no hassle at all. ofcourse you may have more trouble with less reputable companies. oh, i got the phone # to call them off of the rebates. i keep copies of everything, so it wasn't hard to provide them with any info they needed. they also said that if i do not recieve a new check within 30days to call back.
