Full Version: How best to time-shift radio broadcast?

I want to watch a game on TV (muted) while listening to the game on the radio. Unfortunately, the TV broadcast is about 4-5 seconds behind the radio broadcast. So I need some way to delay the radio so it can be in sync.

I was envisioning having my receiver's output go to some little "time-shift device", and then from the device to the amplifier input. But I can't seem to locate anything like that. I remember making a circuit that did exactly that back in a college EE class, so I guess I could create one from parts if someone can find a schematic or instructions.

The closest thing I was able to find was a time-shifting radio:

Sport Sync Portable Time Shift Radio Set, $39.99 + free ship.

But I don't like the idea of listening to some tinny little $40 radio instead of my stereo system. I know I could also purchase a PCI radio for my computer & time-shift that way, but my computer & TV are in different rooms, so that wouldn't work for me.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Or any cheaper solutions?

Well, there goes my idea... I never knew they made a time shifting radio though, that's cool.

By the way, the description of that device says

*Home Theater Cable (optional use)

so you can at least hook the bad reception up to your stereo... smile.gif

Thanks for pointing that out. If I can replace the batteries with an AC adapter, then this little device might not be so bad. Wish I could find it cheaper somewhere.

Dicks.com has it here. If it's also available at the B&M, I can probably find a coupon or GC's to purchase it.

It would be easier to just have a friend across the country tune it in on their radio and hold it up next to the phone while you listen in on your phone. Chicago to VA gives about a 1-2 second delay, Las Vegas to VA gives about 2-3 second delay, I imagine California to VA would be just about right. tongue.gif

Come to think about it, those times are on two landlines. If one or both of you were on cell phones it would add an additional time delay to the reception, so you may not need to go as far across the country.

Tune the radio channel in on the station's web site? Might get a delay there. X10 has RF transmitters that you could use to get it from there to your stereo. The again, you'd need to give X10 your money... wink.gif
