I've got a personal laptop that I'm taking to work this week for a training course. They recently added wifi access throughout our site at work, but it's pretty strictly locked down. Need a special password, etc. For a personal laptop, I was able to get the weekly visitor password. IT also gave me the visitor username, the SSID, etc. However, my laptop won't even see that a network exists! It's got the intel 3945 wireless A/B/G chip, so it should handle anything. My axim can't see a network either. Others with company laptops worked fine, so I know there was a signal. And my laptop works flawlessly at home on my G network, as well as at other sites.

They walked me through setting up the SSID and everything so it should auto-connect to the company network, but it just couldn't see it. They couldn't help any more because it's outsourced so they can't get beyond their scripted answers sad.gif Any suggestions?

if they disabled broadcasting the SSID, you'll never see it until you try to connect.

That's possible - but it's set up on my laptop so it knows what SSID to connect to and is set to auto-connect. Plus he said it SHOULD be showing up as visible (which I think he was wrong, as I've never seen it show up on any device, so I do think they block the SSID broadcast)

Can you compare your laptop's configuration with someone else who has it working?

Got it working - the IT guy was wrong bang.gif

He'd given me the SSID and settings for the company laptops. There's a separate SSID for the visitor logins. Found the visitor setup instructions on the intranet and got it working in 1 minute. Argh.
