This is still significant cheaper than Paypal for the majority for sellers. Google charges a flat 2.0% + 0.20 but payPal's referenced 1.9% transaction fee applies only to sellers who had $100,000 of payments received the prior month.

$0.00 USD-$3,000.00 USD = 2.9% + $0.30 USD
$3,000.01 USD-$10,000.00 USD = 2.5% + $0.30 USD
$10,000.01 USD-$100,000.00 USD = 2.2% + $0.30 USD
> $100,000.00 USD = 1.9% + $0.30

Most PayPal sellers fall probably into the first tiers of 2.9% and 2.5%.

Getting your buyers to use Google Checkout instead of PayPal though will likely pose a challenge. Only if Google is aggressive about marketing this service will it make inroads into ebay selling. Some will probably still remember c2it which failed.

Not sure if it works for Ebay yet. I think they would rather use it with thier Google Base for a while until they build up the user base.

The undercutting fee structure is pretty interesting. Google charges 2% of the sale & 20 cents for all transactions while Paypal charges 2.9% and 30 cents for the vast majority of their transactions.

But eBay sellers may not accept banned services on their customized eBay checkout systems, according to eBay spokesperson Hani Durzy last week.

eBay also appears to have renamed the policy this week. Introduced as the Safe Payments Policy in October 2005 at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/safe-payments-policy.htm, the page now redirects to a policy called Accepted Payments Policy at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accept...nts-policy.html.

I think it's fine for ebay to not accept it yet. Regardless of what google says, it is a brand new payment service, at least in this context, and it would be nice for it to develop a track record.

But somehow I doubt ebay will ever permit it to be used.

I believe this has more to do with protecting PayPal than anything else. All allowed payment methods service a niche.

What is the reason neteller.com is on the not permitted list. Neteller has been in business for years and is the dominant payment method for casino and poker sites. has anybody heard of Neteller freezing accounts like PayPal does? Not me.

I was just reading about that here (thanks HarleyD).

Basically, paypal almost went out of business before being bought by ebay. The reason was that paypal was being used by online gambling sites, and they were investigated by feds & state agencies & the litigation was costing too much. Eventually they caved, and currently do not allow paypal to be used for gambling.

Neteller allows use by online gambling sites. They can do this because they are located outside the US. I assume this is why ebay does not allow them - they don't want to have to fight litigation like that again.

I don't have access to the WP forum so I don't know what is said in that thread. I still think this is still fishy though because both payment services have a UK FSA # as shown below but only moneybookers is permitted on eBay. I'm quite certain that MB is significantly smaller than Neteller. Neteller is located on Isle of Man whereas MB's parent company is located in London. I don't know how closely Isle of Man's legislation is to the UK's.
