Anyone have a recommendation on the best (preferably free) software for saving streaming video?

I had to look for it, but what I used before was SDP, talked about here:

I asked about this before.

I am using wm recorder which records windows media player and real player formats. I give it 2 thumbs up. There's also something to capture flash from ie, but does not work with all flash.

i was wondering why SDP sounded so familiar. it was because i recommended it on the other thread. you can tell i haven't been downloading streams recently.

Yeah, it was pretty much the same thing for me when you recommended it. I thought "that sounds familiar, I'll check what program I used...oh yeah SDP."

It does it's job for most things.

As for recording flash or other embedded video you can try www.keepvid.com. I can't remember who posted that here, but I figured I may as well include a link to it in this thread.

Will this do plain audio streams as well?

SDP will do any type of mms streaming.
