have a friend of mine still runing 98 and is having error problems with msvcrt.dll

researched everything thru google on it to try and restore it back to it's original state but now there seems to be a problem with setupx.dll as possibly corrupted

have checked thru anti virus checks and ad aware checks and nothing on there to screw this up

is there a way to copy the files back off the original 98 disc and put them back into the windows files?
checked the Windows folders and it shows some hidden but I can't remember how to unhide them to find out where the files should be placed

It should be do-able. Take a look at the directions here for extracting original compressed windows files:

Google is your answer to the issue above. A qucksearch on "show hidden files windows 98" brought me to this URL:

Windows 98

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1) Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2) Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3) Select the View menu and then click Folder Options.
4) After the new window appears select the View tab.
5) Scroll down until you see the Show all files radio button and select it.
6) Press the Apply button and then the OK button and close the My Computer Window.
7) Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files

Ack. Windows 98 is a techy nightmare. I hate working on these old computers. Get a windows xp upgrade if you can.

If you have a windows 98 cd, I believe it has an option to like restore system files. If you DONT have a windows 98 CD, go to a computer store like compusa and ask them nicely for a copy. Windows 98 is not supported by microsoft anymore, so they are free. ( at least thats what I was told )
