Here's my attempt at trying to decipher all the unlock info about the PAP2 VoIP adapter...enjoy

These unlock instructions apply to the original Linksys PAP2 only.
The original PAP2 is NOT a CYT device and cannot use the software mentioned in another thread.

1) Do not hook up your PAP2 to the internet until your firmware update is complete and provisioning is turned off. The PAP2 will automatically update once connected to the internet and may not be unlockable with the new Vonage updates that are being pushed.

i.e. make sure your internet connection is disconnected from your PC/router until you've completed the firmware update and turned off provisioning in the admin menu of the box.

2) Using a router is probably the best way to unlock the pap2 adapter with firmwares 3.1.6 and earlier. Just make sure it's disconnected from the net. A router allows you to easily set up a network between the tftp server(on your computer) and your pap2 adapter.

3)You'll need FTP server or TFTP software and have it running it on your PC. See the next post for details.

1) Install the tftp server. Download here: http://www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Free_tools...erver/index.htm
2) Make sure you change settings of the tftp server (file>configure>security, change to transmit and receive files)
3) Download the two files (PAP2SP2K.zip and SP2KPAP2.zip). (Link for the files)

4) Unzip the the two files under C:>TFTP-root. Remember to rename them to PAP2-SP2K.bin and SP2K-PAP2.bin.
5) Follow the exact steps in the next post to complete the firmware upgrade.

1. Make sure the two files in the previous post are in the TFTP root folder.
2. Disconnect from the Internet i.e. unplug your modem (avoids downloading cfg files)
3. Boot your PAP2 in your network (connect PAP2 to your router)
4. Type the IP address of the PAP2 adapter into your web browser to get to the configuration page (Dial "****" and then enter "110#" from a phone connected to the PAP2 if you need the IP address)
5. In SYSTEM, set a User password of 1234
6. Click the SAVE SETTINGS button.
7. Refresh the link (you login with user and 1234)
8. modify the link to show (http)

9. Examine the status leds.. Power should turn RED when it is done. Give it a minute or two, dont interrupt it.
10. Once red, point browser at your PAP2. (our IP in this example is 192.168.1.5)
11. Click the "admin login" link near the top-right.
12. Click the "Advanced" button near the top-right. This will show the Provisioning Tab.
13. Click the PROVISIONING tab and set PROVISION ENABLE=NO.
14. Click "Submit All Changes".
15. Now, modify the link to show (http)

16. Done. Your Linksys PAP2 will eventually reboot (2 blue LEDs) (BE PATIENT)
and you can click the "admin login" near the top-right. No PW needed.

1) remove DNS entries from SYSTEM tab. DHCP will assign DNS info for your unit
2) disable PROVISION option (first setting in PROVISION tab). Set it to NO
3) (Optional) If you are paranoid, you could clear out the provision settings (the stuff about firmware updates, XML files, etc)

Do this *ONLY* if you have succesfully unlocked the unit to 3.1.3 (as mentioned above)

Get the original 3.1.6 firmware form Vonage (this is as of Sep/Oct 2005)

(there is a more direct way, but this is reliable and gives a better feedback).

After the upgrade wait and be patient as usual for the PAP2 to "save" the new firmware.

Please Note: Although 3.1.6 firmware is a relatively safe firmware when provisioning is turned off, you still want save your GPP_K value in case you accidentally factory reset. See the next link.

This is a very important step. If you factory reset your adapter accidentally and your adapter connects to the internet, you may end up LOCKING your adapter permanently. The GPP_K value may be the only way to re-unlock your adapter. Save this in a text file.

Now I can make UNLIMITED FREE long distance call to U.S. and some other countries. Other countries rates are bottom low, such as 1.3 cents per minute to China.
VOIPBUSTER claim you can only make 1 minute U.S. phone call FREE but I just tried and no problem over 3 minutes still connected.

1) As in the previous "trick", you need unique SIP ports and unique userids for the two lines. NOTE: It's quite OK to use whatever "userid" the provider on that line supplied (for logging into their SIP proxy). You don't need the UserId set to any specific value, just something unique!

2) Again, the line you are forwarding from will need "Make call without reg: Yes", and the line you want to forward to will need "Ans Call Without Reg: Yes".

3) If you are behind a router (I am), you will need to forward the SIP port of the line you want to ring (the line you are forwarding to) to the SPA. This is probably much easier if you program the SPA for a "static LAN IP" (instead of using DHCP).

4) Your external address will need to either be "static", _OR_ you will need to use a dynamic DNS service (btw: I'm happy with the free dynamic DNS service from »www.no-ip.com ). This is necessary, as you will need to always know the internet address of your SPA-2000 (not the LAN address, the "external address") for forwarding to work.

5) Turn on "Cfwd All Serv: yes" on the line you are forwarding "from" (i.e. if you want calls to the VoIP on "Line 1" to ring "Line 2", than you set this on "Line 1").

6) Go over to the "user" tab for the line you are forwarding from, and setup the "Cfwd All Dest:" field as "userid@external_address:sip_port". For example, if your dynamic DNS entry is "dummy.no-ip.com", your target line's userid is "testing", and the target line's SIP port is 5063, than you would want to "Cfwd All Dest:" to "testing@dummy.no-ip.com:5063".

NOTE: I was NOT successful in getting the loopback address (127.0.0.1) working for call forwarding (even though it worked for calling one line from the other, above). I had to use the "external address" for the SPA, to get forwarding to work (even between one line and the other on the same Sipura adapter)!

7) Test the setup. The easiest way is to get a friend to call the VoIP number you are forwarding from, and see if the forwarded to line "rings". In my case, I verified the setup by using my Packet8 account (and the Packet8 to FWD Gateway) to call my FWD line (line 1 of my SPA-2000), and have the DialPad.com line (Line 2) ring! I then picked up the phones, and verified that two-way talking was working. Success!!!

I plug it into the network, get an IP address, but when I browse to it, the page doesn't load. If I ping the unit, it responds, but the web page won't load - what can I do?

This problem is because you hooked it up to Internet, the firmware automatically updated, or because the current firmware masked the web page.

Try this to enable web interface:
First keep the PAP2 adapter from accessing the Internet
by unplugging your the cable modem.

Pick up your phone and dial: ****
Then dial: 73738#
Password is: (usually) 7756112# could be: 8995523#
enter 1 to confirm press # Hang up

Pick up the phone and dial: ****
Then dial: 7932#
Password is: 78196365
Press 1 to Confirm and then hang up.

This just enabled the Web Interface if needed.
Try this if you need the IP address of your PAP2:
Dial: ****
Enter: 110# and put that number in your Web Browser
You should gain access to the web server at this point.

The firmware update procedure doesn't seem to work for my PAP2. My PAP2 is asking for an admin password. Is there another way to do this?

Yes, there is the following XML trick that you can use on v2.0.9 (LSD) PAP2's
[list]1) Download a simple DNS server from here: (link)

2) Configure the DNS server so that ls.tftp.vonage.net pointing to your PC/laptop where the tftp server(the one you put the XML file on!) is running.

3) Modify pap2 primary dns server so it points to your PC/laptop

4) Create a XML file spaxxxxxxxx.xml (use notepad or text editor) with the following contents:

5) Save the file as spaxxxxxxxx.xml (replace x's with MAC addy of unit.)

6) Place file in your TFTPBOOT folder.

7) Power-cycle the PAP2 running 2.0.9 firmware

8) Notice lights. it powers up, stops flashing (Dhcp is happy) and then 1 min later, flashes again-- trying to get the XML file.

9) If it worked, browse to the web page of PAP2 and click admin. Username= admin and PW=1234

My adapter connected to the internet and provisioned itself AFTER I unlocked it. How do I RE-UNLOCK my adapter using the FACTORY FRESH "GPP_K" value?

I'll have to mess around with the voipbuster/stanaphone this weekend.

Anyone know what that GPP K stuff is used for? or is it not worth worrying about?
I saw it mentioned a bunch of times on BBR.

• Numeric characters in the admin password are entered as their corresponding numbers.
• Letters are entered as letters on a phone dialpad (i.e. ABC/abe = '2', DEF/def = '3', etc.)
• Non alpha-numeric characters are entered as ZERO (i.e. '0')

1) Unzip the openssl.zip file

2) Execute the "openssl.exe" command as follows:

QUOTE
openssl aes-256-cbc -d -in spa000000000000.xml -out decrypted.xml -k "<GPP_K>"
Note 1: Replace the zero's in spa000000000000.xml w/ your PAP2's MAC ADDRESS.

Note 2: Replace "<GPP_K>" w/ your PAP2' GPP_K key value (and include the surrounding quotes)

Note 3: In the example above, the decrypted XML file will be written to file "decrypted.xml." Name the output filename to whatever you want
