I am looking to make the whole house wireless here. I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop. I would also need a router. I see that OM has these deals this week:

D-Link Air-Plus Wireless Router (20205494 ) : 59.99 -$10 MIR
D-Link Air-Plus Wireless PCMCIA Card (20205528): 49.99 -$10 MIR

I have not been paying much attention to the wireless world, are these good deals? If so then I will jump on them this week.

Any good deals for desktop cards?

Thank you all in advance!! smile.gif

Do you do a lot of networking between the computers in the house?

This makes a difference when deciding between wireless speeds. How fast is your internet connection?

We are moving in 2 weeks and will get DSL. The computers will be down stairs and I would like my laptop upstairs. As of now all the computers are networked since we only have 1 printer. I'd like to get 802.11g (obviously we all want the best) but 802.11b wouldn't be bad if it were a nice price.

-Also, does anyone have any good sites for networking Mac and PC together? Wireless or not?? noclue.gif

Thanks!

macs and pcs should network no problem. the only issue might be getting the mac to talk to the printer across the network depending on the OS and printer (if a printer appliance is used). you may want to consider a wireless router with a built in print server or purchasing a printer network adapter so that you don't have to have a computer on all the time to run the printer.

do you plan on sharing a great deal of information across the computers? this may sway your routing options to something a little more pricey but will offer greater speed. 802.11g may not be necessary depending on your real usage.

i have a mac-pc network in my home. it's not hard to set up. depending on your network setup (DHCP or static IP) it's just a matter of a few clicks and number punches. the hardest part will probably be installation of the wireless hardware and getting the computers to recognize the actual networking hardware rather than getting the computers to recognize the network.

If you're not against doing a lot of rebates, you can bring down the price considerably by trying a deal like this one.

At the very least, you can buy enough to use a coupon.

Also, some of the 802.11 products (including the ones you listed) can operate at 22Mbps in addition to the standard 11Mbps, so keep that in mind when comparing prices.
