I applied yesterday and it wasn't able to instantly approve the application. I just called 1-866-724-9223 now and was told that I got approved and should receive the card/welcome package in the next week or so. They didn't give me a high credit limit but I am not complaining since I already have a 20K credit limit with one MBNA card already.

same thing here on not instant approval but I know why cause it happens to me on all credit apps..and its really a good thing in my case

Didn't know there are maintenance fee for a gift card. Need to use that gift card quick!! I don't know if this rule also apply to other visa gift card. I have a $100 visa gift card from Canon Digital Rebel that I haven't use. I got them for 2 month now. I think I better use them quick.

Maintainence fees are pretty typical for gift cards. The fees usually start after the expiration date on the card. I received a $100 GC for the IP4000 that I bought along with a digital rebel, and it's expiration was 2 months from the date I received it.

mmm, $150...I have very good credit, but just finished school and I don't start my job for a couple months - can I still put down my employment/salary? if not I doubt I'll qualify, and I don't want to take the credit score hit unless I'm getting paid $150 for it

If your stated income is less than $100K, I don't think they bother to verify anymore.

I've been meaning to update this...sorry....both myself and my husband applied, we both were accepted....we both used the same address and phone number.

It shouldn't be an issue for a husband and wife applying using the same physical address.

Just got my first billing. Surprised to see that obligatory purchase from cards#1 and #2 are both on the same bill. Card#3 billing is yet to arrive. Yes, I applied for and got 3 of these Schwab cc, made the initial purchase with each card, am anticipating receiving THREE GIFT CARDS! Not at all sure how this is possible, as I reported annual income of $3k and annual rent of $5k, same ss, but I am definitely in possession of 3 Schwab Visa cards (different rates, limits, coloring, frills like checks to write for cash advances). Looks to me as if the first two cards may have been merged, but I did not discuss or authorize this. But the bill arrived today and I'm paying it. Strange incentive, if you ask me! But I did get all three cards and will be interested to see how this works out.

Why not just spend the GC when you get it? Can't you buy groceries or gas with it? Spending $15 for them to write you a check for $135 is a 10% fee (pretty steep IMO).

It might be worth it just to "cash out" the card via PayPal. You'll pay about $5 in fees + whatever BS fees Charles Schwab adds.

just use it in the first 6 months as a regular credit card. i don't see the problem with spending $150 in a month, let alone 6.
