HI,
I'm a novice when it comes to computers. Installed the CD ROM software for our new dig camera, fuji finepix 2650, plugged the camera into the box, photos transferred fine. I saved them to hard drive. Unplugged camera and tried to dial up to email photos to friend and family. I could not dial up!
I called ISP , they walked me thru lots of stuff, no help. I called Dell, they had me do a system restore to the day before. Now I can dial up fine, but have no software loaded for the camera and am afraid to do it again?
Another tech-ie board mentioned something about "my camera is using the same port used to dial up"? Help, what can I do? I cannot use my camera??

What version of windows are you using? If you're using XP there is no need to install the software if you connect via USB.

Probably referring to COM ports, short for communication ports, and I'm guessing that the camera uses a serial connector instead of USB. It is very possible, and probably the cause, of the modem not working after the camera was installed. They were probably set to use the same COM port. It's actually very easy to correct and should be able to be changed from the camera's software.

After installing the Camera software and sucessfully using the camera see if you can dial out. If you can't, look for a menu item that says something like Tools, Options or Settings from within the camera software. From there you can change the COM port the camera uses. It will be set to either COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4. Change it to a different COM port from the one it is using. If it is set to COM1, set it to COM2, etc. Test to see if you can communicate with the camera afterward.

The 2650 comes with a usb cable.

Personally, I would "create a restore point" then try reinstalling the software (unless you're running XP as wuta mentioned). Go through the whole installation process then restart your computer. See if you can dial up after that. There shouldn't be any reason the camera software is interferring with the dial up connection.

What's so important about that camera software anyway? If you want to save yourself some headaches (not a real solution to the problem but might be a good idea), why not purchase a flash card adapter for your computer? It will save you from using your camera batteries while being connected to your computer and may even increase your transfer speeds from card to PC.

if its usb it should just come up as a removable drive (or whatever). just open it up and drag and drop to your save location.

[SIZE=7]You guys are the best! I've never heard so many suggestions for help! I guess I was asking in the wrong places! The plug part that goes into the computer from the camera is not round, it's flat. Not sure what that means, but know it means something!
Also, running Windows XP Home Edition.

Off to try your ideas and I will let you know...

OK, flat = USB. Forget what I suggested. Can't always be right wink.gif

so plug the camera in. It should load the drivers. goto My Computer and there should be a icon of a camcorder at the bottom that says something like 'Fugi Camera'. double click and your pictures should be in there.

I couldn't agree more wuta.

I've never installed any digicam software aka bloatware on my computer. I just use a card reader and bypass all the nonsense.
