its still in beta but I love it. I've been messing around with it for about 1/2 hour and its just so much better than mapquest or mappoint.

The feature I love the most is:

MAPS ARE DRAGGABLE

no more stupid clicking on the directional arrows!!!!

And the maps are so clean looking.

Wow, nice! thumbup.gif

It keeps leaving blank spots for me, and the blank areas keep changing on a refresh.

Wow, this is great!

Google is taking over the world@

Looks nice, but the directions it gave to my Mom's house added 2 hours to the trip. blink.gif

Thanks for pointing this out. I just played with it for a couple minutes. It's VERY nice.
WillyNilly
Very nice! Was kind of slow for me -- missing a couple squares in a map. Just me or is it being hammered? wink.gif

It's been posted to Slashdot, so it's getting hammered.

Nice indeed!!

This is very cool. Blows Mapquest & Yahoo! Maps out of the water!

I like the look and features of it, but it does give me wrong directions to get off of the hill that I live on since it takes me to areas where cars aren't allowed to drive (unpaved streets and blocked off areas and whatnot)... there's only one official way up and down this hill and this kind of goes the back way. tongue.gif

What a great UI.

Bump, I was doing some map searching and found this thread. Mapquest and Yahoo Maps better start catching up.

To me, this is the best feature. keyboard shortcuts rock.

Keyboard shortcuts are great, and Google Maps has a bunch of them. For instance, you can...

    * use the arrow keys to pan left, right, up and down
    * the page up, page down, home and end keys let you pan out even wider
    * the plus (+) key lets you zoom in and the minus key (-) is for zooming out.

I just wish they would bring these back.

Not sure why this page still exists. AFAIK, they stopped working and haven't reinstated them.

Awesome! I wish you could zoom in on them a little closer than it gets though.

Awesome!  I wish you could zoom in on them a little closer than it gets though.

My house is on the edge of where two sets of maps meet. The one set lets me zoom all the way to where I can see my house. The other set can only zoom in about halfway before it becomes useless.

I thought someone was covering half of the satellite's lens when I first took a look. tongue.gif

Hmmm, the phone number is wrong of the business I work at, anyone know who I can contact to fix that?

Here's something even more fun than Google maps. Since Google bought Keyhole, they're now offering Google Earth (Keyhole's Earthviewer software) for free:

http://earth.google.com

I've been playing with it for a while and it's pretty fun. smile.gif

A friend of mine showed me Google Earth over the weekend. It's very cool software. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Google pedometer - http://www.sueandpaul.com/gmapPedometer/

VERY fun! Uses bandwidth for the data to stream in, though, so definitely not for the 56k users out there!

I was playing around with this last night. I love the tilt feature smile.gif

I would love if maps.google.com implements the wheel-zoom that MS did on http://virtualearth.msn.com. Sure beats having to click on a zoom-in, zoom-out button.

Google Earth does that, but that would be nice if they added it to Maps.

Flash version of Google Maps... no driving directions, just the map part of it. There's also some other neat Flash things on the page.

And now there's Windows Live Local from Microsoft.

manekineko
http://maps.a9.com is pretty nice too for street level pictures.

But no doubt, Live is awesome.
