I have an apex 21" tv that has pretty crappy sound unfortunately and it's hard to hear a lot of the time.

I have a set of logitech z640s on the way, and I was wondering if there was some way I could run audio from the TV to these speakers. I know it won't be 5.1, but I just want to be able to hook up some other speakers somehow!

Also, I would imagine that I could hook these to my norcent dp300 dvd player too somehow, right?

Thanks, any help is appreciated... I am a home A/V dummy cool.gif

do you have a reciever?

if not,i would recomend a low end reciever to be cost effective...

here is a 200w $79 that only has 2 channels no.gif

this would be my recomendation for a LOW end reciever - $180....

of coarse there are other deals to be had.....

this is the TV

Looks like it has Rear and side A/V inputs, rear A/V output.

So I would need something to run the A/V output into (more than likely a receiver) and then hook the speakers to the receiver?

Would it be possible to use those logitech speakers with it?

THanks

Is it really necessary to involve a receiver? Aren't the Z-640s amped?

There are adapter at radio shack that should allow you to connect your sound on from the TV (rca jacks L/R) to a 3.5 mini stereo adapter.

If the dudes at the shack know anything about a/v stuff they should be able to find you what you need. If they're idiots (like around here) you'll have to attempt browse the selection of plugs and cables to see if you can find a solution that would work for your setup.

edit:
Your TV doesn't have stereo output so you'll have to find a Y-adapter to switch your audio out on the Tv to two channels. You can then find a female RCA audio adapter to convert to a stereo mini plug

edit2: it really would be a waste of your z640s to use them on that TV... but it should work

if you were looking for stereo sound you would need to run a cable/sat connection through a reciever... and i dont think you would be able to use those z630s, maybe look into a klh deal from BB, they are not the nicest set-up, i know someone who has a klh reciever/speaker set-up it sounds ok, i think i ahve seen the recievers for $130, and not sure on the speakers...

here is a klh reciever...

good luck...

would that give me stereo sound for it?

I know it would be a waste, but I am going to hook them up for dvd watching as well, and I just need something to give me some better sound

and thanks for your help guys!

It would nice to have stereo, so maybe I will try running through VCR if the cables wuta17g suggested don't provide stereo

nope, you will have mono sound ran to 2 channels...

you would need a reciever that accepts cable co-ax in or run cable through your dvd to reciever then to speakers (vcr will work too)

You'll be able to get everything EXCEPT tv in stereo. That's just the way it goes.

Just looked and the z640s take RCA audio inputs according to the logitech website. So you can easily by a y-adapter cable to split your mono sound to L-R RCA audio outs.

The 640s don't have a built in dolby digital decoder so without a receiver the best you'll be able to get from a dvd player is stereo sound. If you get a receiver you'll be able to cable your way to 5.1 sound (so long as it's a receiver capable of it).
