While I have no experience with this bank personally, I see they are FDIC insured which is important. I'd do some research on them through the FDIC, and hopefully others here will have some input or experience with them to post.

Emigrant is a legit bank. I have personally worked with this institution.

I saw this offer before, and misread the terms. I thought that you could only make one deposit into the account. I've reread the terms, and see it just says you can only make one check deposit, and after that, all deposit must be made electronically.

Their rate is almost 1% higher than the competition. I'm baffled as to how/why they do it, and/or how long it will last.

I may sign up for this.

Wow this is great. I've never had a "money market" account, though, not sure how it's different from checking/savings account.

Awesome, I created an account with them about a month ago, fairly painless experience. I'd recommend them, though they are not as professional as ING.

Usually it just means they ask for a higher minimum balance, etc. Like one step up from a savings account or checking with interest. Still FDIC insured, still guaranteed percentage of return with no risk.

One thing I didn't like about Emigrant was their UI. It looks like something they just slapped up there to get the product out. I know it's nitpicking but their URL isn't even emigrantdirect.com (https://cib.ibanking-services.com) and their favicon is Netscape!
Here's a good comparision of ING and Emigrant:
ING vs Emigrant

Really should update that title...

If I had to choose between a better UI or a better interest rate, I'd choose the better interest rate everytime. biggrin.gif
