Hello,

I have been getting rid of spyware all day today. I have done the following:

Downloaded SpyGuard (and updated)
Updated my Ad-Aware
Upgraded my AVG 6.0 to 7.0 Free Edition
Updated my Spybot S&D

Now my problem is that I have a file named Wild Tangent that is creating spyware but I am not sure if I should delete it.....says it has something to do with games...?

And, I have a file that is the Salm Search Assistant 180Solution that I cannot delete because it says access denied...Says to make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use. Now I am not sure what this means and I am not sure if this is sopposed to be deleted.

And finally, I have a folder labeled "WINDOWS" that has ended up in my recycle bin and I can't get it back out. It pops up an error msg. that says...make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use.....

I think in a nutshell, I have spyware that is on my computer but I am not able to get rid of it. Usually says access denied.

I AM ONE HOPELESS CASE! About to pull my hair out..

Wild Tangent seems to be one of the BETA's for AIM. Can I trash AIM and still be able to use it with my trillian program????

Okay, I deleted the Wild Tangent and all seems to be alright. Trillian is still working. Now on to the next set of problems....but first will do another spybot check. Stay tuned...lol

Boot into Safe Mode and run AdAware & Spybot. A complete virus scan while in safe mode wouldn't hurt either.

Great advice

I would like to add that Wild Tangent is one of the older spyware programs that would piggyback with different software and hardware drivers...I remember it a few years ago when installing a video card...Read about it this year as one of the spyware regulars.
Stinkers.

Also, bear in mind that WinME and XP have autorestore as a default, and that makes it impossible to get rid of some things. Gotta disable it after a thorough cleaning.
