NBA Apartments for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities with Low Incomes
Here's the National Benevolent Association's site
NBA recognizes that there are thousands of older adults in America who have reached retirement age, but do not have the financial resources to typically afford a place to live:
Perhaps a life of servanthood as a minister, missionary or teacher provided only for the here and now
Perhaps their resources were spent on ailing families or personal illnesses
Perhaps disabilities kept them from making incomes large enough to set aside anything for retirement
Perhaps medical bills consume every available penny
Responding to their need, NBA provides safe and clean apartment living for qualifying older adults as well as individuals with disabilities with very limited income at more than 70 locations nationwide.
NBA apartments for older adults and persons with disabilities with low incomes are constructed and managed by NBA in cooperation with local congregations and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Occupancy requirements vary according to the facility and location, but the majority were built to accommodate older adults age 62 or older and persons with disabilities, who qualify for Section 8 rent subsidization. The programs and services of the National Benevolent Association are available to all qualified individuals in need, regardless of their race, color, faith or religious affiliation, national origin, sex, handicap, or familial status.
To qualify, applicants must provide proof of income. Once qualified, residents pay rent equal to no more than 30% of their adjusted income or 10% of their gross income, whichever is greater, for rent.
Income standards are established by HUD and vary based on location. Potential residents must contact the local facility or area HUD office for exact admission requirements. In many cases, there may be a waiting list for available apartments.
