Hello all, it is me again just had a quick question. Last night I installed AVG, Spybot, MS SP2, Zone Alarm on my puter. I think that I installed the "regular" version of zone alarm that only contains the firewall. There is apparently a zone alarm update titled: Zone Alarm 5.1..... is this what I should be updating my system to?

Any replies will be appreciated...TY in advance.

If you have zonealarm installed you may as well open it up and check for updates. You always want the most updated firwall/av protection, so you may as well check for updates.

Since you have AVG installed it may not let you run the ZA av at the same time (I know it doesn't run with symantec products installed). Which is good cause you don't want two av's running at once anyway.

But in any case you do want to update.

Just FYI, but I updated my ZA from 4.xx.xxx to 5.xx.xxx (5.01?) and my system was FUBAR'd. How do I know ZA did it? Uninstalled, reinstalled new ZA, reinstalled 4.xx.xxx, and problem solved.

Dunno if 5.1 is better/more stable, but my friend and I both had problems with new ZA, while others have had good luck with it. I'm sticking to 4.xx.xxx, just cuz I know it works.

Good luck!

There were known issues with the versions of 5.0xxxxxxxxxx. But I think they fixed all the the bugs with 5.1xxxx. I have one machine using 5.1xxxxx and its working fine. Currently I think they are up to 5.1.033.

And if you are brave enough, there is a beta 5.5xxxxxxxxxxxxxx available.

Did you have problems on the 5.0xxxxxxx on the machine that has 5.1xxxx working ok?

I never got around to installing 5.0xxxxxx.. I usually wait a while before installing new versions and when I heard about all the problems, I just waited until a more stable ver. came out. I went from 4.5xxxxx to 5.1xxxx with no problems.

I've been using 5.1 since it came out, works fine for me. When you say your system was fubar'd can you be more descriptive?

Can't remember exact details, but I want to say that my computer locked up with IM software and/or loading of browsers.

Maybe not such a big deal on a gaming rig, but this was on my surfing machine, so I considered it fubar'd wink.gif

Yeah I would too. I just wondered because so far I have never had any problems with zonealarm. The only problems I've seen with zonealarm are misconfigurations. It is not the easiest program to configure, especially for someone who his new to firewalls. But I like it the best out of any other firewall. I've been testing it's antivirus, and it seems to work pretty good.
