I got a brand new laptop last week but its showing a problem which I have never seen before. Every once in a while the keyboard becomes totally non-responsive. All the keys on the keyboard stop working completely.

If I restart the computer the keyboard returns back to normal and everything works fine.

Any idea what this problem might be due to? Is it a hardware problem or some kind of settings issue?

thanks
Alan
Could be a loose cable connection to the motherboard or maybe a faulty cable. Could also be something totally unrelated to the keyboard. Whatever the problem it sounds like warranty time.

damn. I was trying to avoid the warranty time! I guess I will have to call them.

Do you have a touch pad as the mouse?

My work laptop would always freeze up because of the touch pad mouse. I couldn't use the keyboard either. After I turned the touch pad mouse off everything worked fine and i never had the screen freeze up on me again.

you could try turning your touchpad mouse off too.

i personally could not fathom the idea of using a laptop without a touchpad now that i'm used to it.
