Hey guys, I am trying to upgrade my mom's computer (yeah, that OLD Toshiba satellite 1805-S203).

I think I would not buy a new OS (win2000 would be the best choice here) for that since I think she is going to use it for about one more year before buying a new laptop. So the best thing to do, I think, would be adding more memory.

This lappy uses PC100 soDimm memories. It came with a 128MB piece and has one more slot left. The introduction of this computer on the internet says that the max ram it can take is 512MB. So I believe the maximum memory the empty slot can use would be 256MB.

CircuitCity and Staples all have some notebook memories for the machine. But they are PC100/133. And the best price I can find would be at CircuitCity, $40.99 for a Centon 128MB.

For PC100 memories, Crucial.com is asking $56.** for a 128MB piece. As a true bargainsharer, I would want the most for the money. I used Froogle but it didn't came out too much. Right now, I found the memory is cheapest HERE at Majormemory. It's one of those Yahoo stores. I am just wondering, is this a legit reseller, or a spam site?

Would you trust used memory?

If so, I glanced briefly through Anandtech's FS/T and found two sellers selling a 256mb stick of PC100 Sodimm for $40 shipped.

Edit: Saw one thread for $35 shipped...http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=1337271&highlight_key=y&keyword1=sodimm

Just pay attention to the limitations on the RAM.

I do trust used memory, Ung. But I cannot handle the "it worked fine until you..." kind of talk from my mom if anything is not working as she expects.

basset: thanks for the link. It's a very useful tool in searching memory from different retailers. I have bookmarked it. smile.gif

I found the best price for the KTT-SO815256 memory is $87.3. However, at 18004memory.com, some compatable model is only $45. Well, another retailer that I have never heard of...

definitely go by resellerratings when thinking about buying from a yahoo store. if it's not on there, don't buy from it.

majormemory.com is not on that list. I guess I will have to find elsewhere to buy.

The good thing is, since mom came and took away her lappy, the upgrade plan has been postphoned for at least one week. This would give me some time to buy one for a good price from a good store.
