The State of California passed legislation establishing a funding system for the collection and recycling of certain electronic products that meet the criteria of a "Covered Electronic Device" (CED). This law, referred to as SB20, requires manufacturers such as Dell Inc. to collect a fee for these electronic devices sold into the State of California. Under current SB20 law and regulations, the following Dell branded & third party products will be subject to a State Environmental Fee: All notebook computers
All CRT monitors
All LCD monitors
TV's with a screen size greater than 4 inches that contain Cathode Ray Tubes
The Fees associated with SB 20 are as follows: $6 per device with a screen size greater than 4" but less than 15"
$8 per device with a screen size between 15"- 35"
$10 per device with a screen size greater than 35"
In compliance with California law SB20, Dell Inc. plans to add a State Environmental Fee to your invoice for all orders placed on and after July 1, 2004, based upon products selected and a ship to location of California. This fee will not be applied to shipments to Federal Government entities.
Resellers are responsible for understanding SB20 and complying with SB20 to the extent the law might be applicable to them. Dell will not collect and remit this fee on a resellers behalf if they have a California resale exemption certificate on file with Dell.
While the law requires this fee to be imposed beginning July 1, 2004, legislative developments are in progress to move the effective date out to November 1, 2004. Please monitor the following websites for the latest updates to SB20 and Dell's implementation plans to comply with this California law.
