I have an 11 year old who loves to draw and is actually pretty good. She uses different programs to draw on her computer, but feels a tablet would make it easier. Do any of you have any experience with the tablets out there that aren't TOO expensive? We tries the Jam one and even with the driver upgrade, it doesn't work with XP correctly. TIA

Are you talking Tablets like Tablet PCs or Wacom Tablets? Also, whehn you say not TOO expensive what do you have in mind?
GSMom
Sorry. I'm talking a graphics tablet like Wacom. And price-wise? Well, she is only going to be 12. I'm not sure I would want to shell out over $100 or so. She may change her interests next week, ya know? wink.gif

So, no one will help me here?

You mean even the XP driver doesn't work?

Yes, budget-wise, it is fine. However, the 4x5 inch active area seems pretty small. I am interested in finding out about the different types of tablets and which are any good. I saw as UC-Logic 8060 Series on Ebay for $89 with a 6x9 active area, a Pablo for $20, a True-Touch for $50 but I don't really know quality of any of these. Wacom seems to be the best quality, but is that really so, and do any others even come close for quality? My daughter has started doing manga and I would like to encourage her interest, but don't want another piece of dung like the Jam Studio.

The XP driver allows the XP to acknowledge the tablet is attached, however, the pen jumps everywhere and is not smooth. I have deleted everything and reinstalled a few times and each time I get the same results. sad.gif

Seems like some people somehow got the JamStudio to work under Windows XP:

Solution 1:
QUOTE
1. Install the WinXP drivers with the tablet unplugged.
2. Plugin the tablet and if nothing happens install the WinXP drivers again. Try different USB ports as well.
3. Now install the software that came with the tablet and then install (once again) the WinXP drivers.

Solution 2:
QUOTE
1.Loaded the drivers again.
2. Re-booted the computer with the tablet attached.
3. Start-run and installed the drivers again. Got a message about compatiblility and entered yes and it loaded the tablet control panel to the system control panel.

In terms of quality, you can't beat a wacom Intuos2. It can be as big as 12 x 18. But I doubt you are looking for something in that price range.

Wacom does make a 6 x 8 Graphire3. Its not as good as the Intuos2 but way better than Jam or any other brands.

Your best bet is to get the 6 x 8 @ buy.com ,(the link kevie posted)
