figured i'd post this here to inform those not yet informed.

sony's drive $200

Verbatim dual layer dvd's

review of sony's drive

review of benq drive

in short, do not buy a dvd burner now, wait for these things to come out and drive the prices down of other burners.

yeah and after you get comfortable with dvd9 they will come out with bluray or HD-dvd. HD-dvd will be awesome. HD-cd was no big deal because dvd burners were out, but HD-dvd will be very fun.

Anyone with an idea on street pricing for the dual layer media?
n99nyrwg
that's the only thing i couldn't find. but there is a reason for that. it looks like the media is what will hold back this whole project. most of the articles i have read are skeptical about how soon dvd9 will take off because of the lack of media support. software support is there and is ok and the hardware seems to be working fine, besides that it takes 45mins to burn a dvd9 and only 15mins to burn 2 dvd5's. it's just the media we're waiting on.

Last rumor I had heard was it was going to hit the streets at about 2.00 to 2.25 per disc

OUCH

cool, thanks for the info.

that's not so bad considering that's about what dvd5's hit the market at. also considering a decent deal is $1 for a dvd5, so to pay double that for about double the space is reasonable.
