Women who make a $25 donation to the american heart association starting 4/30 get a free pair of shoes worth $70. Tax dedutable too...

Seems like it does have a YMMV limit since they're limiting the giveaway to $1M worth of the shoes (14,285 pairs).

Only if you don't get the shoes. If you do get something in exchange for your donation, other than a "token item" like a lapel pin, you will have to subtract the value of the item from the donation amount. In this case the $69.99 declared value would negate the $25 deduction, legally speaking.

where do you actually donate the money, at a reebok store?
dasnufus
thankyou. This sounds like a great deal.. banana.gif

No you could still make the deduction because they are two seperate interests. You're making a taxable deduction to the American Heart Association, not Reebok.

If the American Heart Association was giving you the sneakers, then you are correct. cool.gif

This is not totally free. You need to donate $25 to the American Heart Association (which IS Tax Deductible). But you do get a free pair of shoes worth $69.99 !!

Join the fight. Starting April 30th, each person who donates $25 to the American Heart Association, will be eligible for a free pair of our new Versasport DMX Max (retail value $69.99). Reebok is committed to giving away $1 million worth of athletic footwear and making it easier to live heart healthy. Don't miss this opportunity: REQUEST A REMINDER! Limit one pair of shoes per household. While supplies last."

Anybody jumping on this?

My dad could use a pair of good walking shoes and $25 (free shipping, no taxes?) would be pretty nice. Can't always find something good from FL F&F sales.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any idea how will this work?
Will the shoes be shipped or you have to have a store nearby?

Looks like I'm finally getting in. (Thanks, danlynclark - I was ready to give up until you said you got in.) I had two browser windows open, and they both came up with the order form at approximately the same time.

The order form said that Reebok had donated $38354.52 in retail value of footwear up to now. If they're going to donate $1 million total, that is promising for those who have been having trouble. pray.gif

Check your balances!

I found today that I had been charged twice--once yesterday and once today. Being an internet shopping geek, I know never to click "submit" more than once, and this was no exception, despite the slow site. I let it sit and take its time while I browsed elsewhere last night. But somehow, two separate $25 charges have appeared in my account for the AHA.

Will be trying to get it straightened out with Reebok--if I can ever get ahold of them.

The IRS does not qualify the benefit as having to come from the same organization that the donation is going to, only that you are receiving a benefit because of the donation, or, expect to receive a benefit.

You couldn't donate a charitable deduction to Reebok since they are not qualified to receive charitable donations by the IRS. Reebok can however make a charitable donation to a qualified organization by making a certain amount of it's merchandise available as a benefit to individuals who contribute (in this case $25) to the charity.

If you still think that the donation will be tax deductable, you should read the terms and conditions found at the Reebok promotion site:
QUOTE
Your donation to the American Heart Association is voluntary.
This is not a tax deductable donation because you will be receiving shoes in exchange for your donation.

Could you still deduct the $25? Sure
Would you get in trouble? Probably not.
Would you be violating federal Tax Law? Absolutely.

What you do depends on your upbringing and moral character. Some will feel that since most probably there will be no repercussion from it, why not? Others will follow the tax law to the letter and even declare the value over the donated amount as income. The rest will fall somewhere in between and just say that the shoes equal the donation and not claim or declare anything. It all depends on who you are.

Got mine last week. They are soooooo nice.
