Hey all,

Thinking about buying my wife a pda to make her life a little easier, but... I'm not sure if one exists that will do all that she'd need it to. She's also not a techie, so ease of use would be very important. Basically, these are the features I'm looking for:

1. Act as a cell phone
2. Voice directions via GPS nav - ie, enter 1234 1st street, city, state, zip and have it give turn by turn directions as the car drives there.
3. Easy entry management of appointments - preferably handwriting recog (or even voice!) for logging an entry.
4. Webbrowser for Yahoo email and calendar access selectable via hotspots, direct lan, or cell as a last resort.
5. _very_ easy to dump info to a printer - ie, weekly appointments, contact lists, etc...

We have verizon right now, so it would be nice if it would work on their network, but I'm not locked into it... I'm hoping there's a "pda x123" or something out there that has all of these features, instead of having to go with a pda and then add software & accessories, etc...

I've briefly looked at the iQue, but it doesn't seem to have cell or web access...

Thanks!

If you want to get a cell phone PDA with GPS, make sure the cell phone PDA has either bluetooth,CF, or SDIO. I believe you will have to get GPS separate from the cell phone PDA.

I've been looking for a cell phone + PDA + GPS with a reasonable form factor and standard PDA OS and haven't had any luck yet. bang.gif

Guess I might have to give it another couple of years... If you come across anything, shoot me a PM & I'll do the same.

Thx guys!

The place for PDA/phones is www.pdaphonehome.com - it's got forums for every major phone out there.

I have a Samsung I500 myself, which is a tiny flip phone that is also a Palm. It does all that you ask except for GPS.

China Mobile Produced CU928 Seeing America?
China Mobile has produced a pretty nice form-factored Pocket PC Phone that is being launched by China Unicom, and Asian Carrier. About the size of the XDA II, it has a slide out QWERTY/Numeric keypad. Slide out keyboards, while yet to prove themselves in the pdaPhone arena, are all the rage in the traditional mobile phone space. Verizon Wireless is advertising their new slider phone very agressively on television.

This device has respectable specifications including...

OS: Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC

CPU: Intel PXA 263 CPU, 400 MHz

Radio: Qualcomm MSM5500 - 800/1900Mhz CDMA2000 1xRTT

ROM: 64 MB, RAM: 64MB

Dimensions: 125mm x 69.8mm x 18.7mm, weight: 210 g

GPS - gpsOne, PDE calculated position location

Camera: VGA (640*480)

Bluetooth 1.1 (With profiles for - SPP: Serial Port Profile, DUN: Dial-Up Networking Profile, OPP: Object Push Profile, SP: Headset Profile, GAP: Generic Access Profile, GOEP: Generic Object Exchange Profile)

There are rumors flying that this device may get picked up by Sprint mid-year. Thanks to the trusty FCC website, we'll know about it long before it happens if the rumor is true. I'd say now that I don't buy it since it would most likely already need to be in the approval process for mid-year to be a possibility.

"GPS - gpsOne, PDE calculated position location"

Does this mean it can function as a direction giving GPS system? I assume I'd have to buy a software package to provide the voice directions, etc...

Thanks for the link, we happen to be with Verizon already, so this might be just the ticket!
