I was wondering if there was a big (read: worth the $100) difference between the 128MB card and the 256MB card?

Also whats the difference between the ATI, Saphire, and Powercolor(?) Models of the 9800 cards?

Thanks in advance
Landau
Here is an article at Tom's Hardware comparing the 2.

The benchmark results of the new Radeon 9800 Pro with 256 MB are sobering when compared to those of the 128-MB variant. It's only in extreme situations (in the highest resolutions and high FSAA settings) that any difference could be seen. In these areas, however, the frame rates are at a low level, which is therefore not realistic and certainly not worth the extra $100. In addition, the card generates an extremely high amount of heat. This is a peculiarity of the DDR II memory, from which NVIDIA's NV30 (alias GeForce FX 5800 Ultra) also suffers. In any case, ATI now has a product in its program to rival the new NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, which is also equipped with 256-MB memory.

Can I use a AGP 4x slot to plug a 128MB card into then? I currently have a GeForce 3 that came with my comp so I think I have a 4x AGP slot. Is there an easy way to check for this?

Thanks again!

Yup. Download Sandra from SiSoftware (Just do a search on Google) and look under PCI, AGP, CardBus Bus(es) Information. Then, pick your AGP connection.

Look under AGP capabilities (3rd set of data) and look at Data Transfer Modes Support (Last one of the set).

Great utility Sandra is.

BTW, I have TWO PCI buses? Hmmm, what's the other PCI bus for?

ED: Link

One says Brookdale Host-Hub Interface Bridge which I assume is my "regular" PCI bus. The other says VE Network Connection which I assume is a PCI bus specifically for the Ethernet connection onboard? Interesting way to divide it, but I guess it makes sense in some weird way smile.gif...
