My daughter and I recently attended the second annual father-Daughter dance for our county. This year the photographer has put all the pictures from the dance onto his website and you can order copies directly from there. I sent a link to my family members to check out this years picture and my Dad wanted to print one out to show to Mom. If you right click you get a "Please contact our studio to purchase these photos" message. If you click on "print" while viewing a picture it will print "Please don't print out these photos". They send you a free 4x6 photo that I then make my copies and enlargements from but I'm curious as to how to get around this web page formatting.

The site is here.

Click on "Client Viewing" second from the bottom.
In the bottom box under "Sports Session or Events Session" enter the Session ID of "DANCE" (all capitals) then you will see the pics from the dance. Click on any thumbnail to enlarge.

For inquiring B$ minds, my little girl and I are in one of the pictures, but I'm not saying which one, yet.
qwex
well the pictures appear to be background images in table cells or something, I don't think those print by default. I'm sure there's a way to interrupt printing of the pictures, but then again I'm sure there's a way to get around that.
WillyNilly
I wonder if the site works with Java disabled...
NARC
Don't use Internet Exporer. Opera can usually get around this....
Alan
There are a number of ways. here are a couple:

1) Do a "print screen", paste into a graphics program, cut and paste the pic, then print.

2) In IE, click File > Save As
Under "Save as type" choose "Web page complete"
In the resulting folder named "showproofs_files" will be a jpg of the pic.
NARC
Of course, a screen print will work as well. Just paste it in Irfanview or something and go from there.

edit: Aww, Alan beat me to it.

Its a really lame javascript. You can use a browser that does not have javascript enabled or try disabling javascript with whatever browser you are using. (I don't think IE has that option but I know opera/netscape does)

If you have to use IE, the pics can still be saved. You need to use windows explorer. Go to your temporary internet files folder. If you didn't change it yourself, the default should be located

whatever drive:/documents and Settings/(your user name)/local settings/temporary internet files/

view the pic you want to see. then go to the directory. Refresh if needed. Just copy and paste to whereever you want

for example the first pic "035679-r1-005-1" is saved in the temporary internet files as 035679-r1-005-1.jpg

It might be easier to use another browser. Just make sure javascript is disabled..

Used #2, worked like a charm!

Now how did I know that the Al-Man would come up with that?

This is very informative. I needed this information before so now I know what to do. Thanks.

Hmmm, I sense a "Pick the Wings pic" contest tongue.gif

easier way is to hold left mouse button, hold right mouse button, realease left mouse button, click "ok" to close popup, release right mouse button, "save background as..."

Nice one Dr Z! But you have two "release right mouse buttons", the first one should be release LEFT mouse button.

Beautiful... exactly what I did before checking the solutions -har-

That's the simplest and most elegant way to do this. Clicking on the save entire page is cheating tongue.gif

Very cool! Nice job!

Corrected type in quote BTW.

That's a cool trick, I'll keep it in mind. My technique (this isn't limited to protected sites) is to print the whole thing to a PDF file (using Acrobat). Then open the PDF in Photoshop, and there's an option to extract images from the PDF. This pulls them all out, then you save. The only problem is it also extracts all the miscellaneous page graphics. But, it's automated and it grabs all the pics so it's useful. And you get a PDF of the page, which is also nice, for archive purposes.

Of course, this requires full versions of Acrobat and Photoshop.

Hmmm, which one looks like a pilot.... smile.gif

I think we can eliminate the ones with glasses since most pilots have to have good eyesight to start with and most people on there have pretty thick glasses...

Also, he's probably dressed up since they normally know to dress appropriately for the occasion...

Also, Wings let slip that he's only in ONE of the pictures, so he's not one of the multi-picture people...

And he also let slip that it's his daughter (SINGULAR) and him, so it's probably not one of the multi-girl pictures.

So, far I've seen 0356769-R1-005-1, 0356769-R1-009-3, and 0356770-R1-034-15A which fit the description, but I only went in about 1/3 of the way tongue.gif...

ED: Oops, saw 0356770-R1-074-35A, 0356771-R1-033-15, 0356771-R1-061-29, and 0356772-R1-040-18A also, which could fit, thought that third one doesn't look like a pilot... Ok, went through all of them smile.gif.

Not sure if any of my assumptions are correct, but did I happen to pick your picture in that runthrough?

LOL, don't you think we'd need his session ID to figure this out, since his pics probably aren't in the publicly viewable part?

One other way to get right click menu is

(1) hold right mouse button
(2) press spacebar to dismiss popup
(3) release right mouse button

That doesn't require use of left mouse button and I find it easier, myself.

Frank,
Your logic is sound, but you did not pick me out. You did though pick out my neighbor who's little girl is wearing the dress that mine wore last year. He got a kick out of the fact that you picked his photo, and I agree with you, he does look like he could be a pilot. I know why you passed me by, you made just one assumption too many. (The planes I fly these days are privately owned not corporate.) I fear if I say any more I will give it away, but if you look real close, you can tell I'm originally from Chicago.

And as far as using print screen key, is there a way to increase image resolution (I think mine is at 72 with xp pro)?

I used to try printing the page to a file, but the paperport program's print driver on xp sucks (coudn't get it to work after several tries). bang.gif

the address of the image is

ht tp://uptown.storefrontphotos.com/test/1227002.jpg

just pop that into your browser and then save it
DrZoidberg
also, i use avant browser that has a toolbar pop-up when you hover over a picture. It will allow you to save it, email it, open it in another browser, open it in an image editor, copy url to clipboard, etc.
tolik
in case you wonder where that came from, just hit view source, and find the following line:

CODE
<a href="./?cat=26276&page=1">Reception 0409<br>
<img src="/test/1227002.jpg" border="0" class="imagebox" onMouseDown="return false"><br></a>

if it doesn't have a full URL after the IMG SRC=, it just means to use the home directory and append the address. if it doesn't have "/" as the first char after img src AND no full URL, it means use current directory and append the address to that.

I can think of a few ways to make it a bit harder than that to find the web address of the picture, but at the end of the day anything that you display on a screen needs to get cached anyway in order to be displayed.
Keggster22
I just used the print screen and captured it to paint and then opened photoshop and made it whatever size I wished from there and then saved it for print
