Hi all,
I'm have some info on the harddrive of my laptop that I want transferred to my desktop. How to make this happen?

Limitations:
I'm using Windows/Dell
About 6gb so a disk is out
No wireless capabilities

I'm really hoping for something simple like one cord connecting both computers; like I do to hook up my desktop monitor to my laptop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What you need is a crossover ethernet cable. You can pick one up for $20 or less. Make sure that it specifically SAYS crossover, otherwise, it won't work.

Then, you just connect the cable to each computer's ethernet port, enable sharing, and voila, you can transfer files!

50' for $11 at Dell

3' for $4 at TechDepot

10' for $6 at TechDepot

Lots more crossover cables at CompUSA

In addition to connecting the computers directly to one another with a crossover cable you need to make sure each computer has a network interface then you need to configure IP addresses for both computers, enable file sharing, then share the files & folders you want to transfer.

Here's a good place to start learning how to set this up. Download the document when on the page.

Too bad you do not have a DVDRW 4.7 GB & it's rewriteable.

Just a thought.

Heh, good point, Alan. Forgot that he might not know how to do that.
