I will post what to buy & links on how to roast coffee beans if there is any interest. Too lazy to just do it if there is no interest. If U like coffee.... U will never again drink what U presently slurp after having tasted a fresh roasted & brewed cup of coffee. Plus U will cut your coffee bills in half after the initial outlay for equipment which U will pay off in under 6months from the savings.

What a nice service you are offering! I roast my own and second the emotion on the best tasting coffee. Wont be too long before you are snubbing Starbucks as well. tongue.gif (Tho, I do sometimes buy coffee from the place that supplies my green beans...I know when they roast and am always assured of the perfect cup from them. :D )

Folks, I highly recommend taking advantage of this information....you will never look at coffee the same way again banana.gif

BTW...which roaster are you using and what was the cost on it? (always in the market for a backup tongue.gif )

I bought the Fresh Roast Plus from Coffee Wholesalers. $65.50 + Free S&H. Sweet Maria's sez that the new Hearthware Gourmet Coffee Roaster will arrive in May.... "it is expected to be a half pound roaster - hopefully more reliable and the same quality of roast as the Hearthware Precision". I wouldn't wait to buy it cuz I can no longer drink any coffee other than "fresh roasted". I was out of town & had to buy a cup at Starbucks...... it tasted like bile...... just awful. The reason ppl add cream, flavorings, sugar, etc..... is to mask the taste of what is really a disgusting brew. If ppl would taste fresh roasted coffee just once they would never drink anything else. Try these Kenya AA beans. They really are better "sundried". Very sweet. Mix it 2 to 1 or even 1 to 1 with COSTA RICAN TARRAZU for a rich chocolate taste with an aftertaste of wine. Or.... mix the Kenyan 1 to 1 with GUATEMALAN ANTIGUA that gives a slight citrus aftertaste.... not sure why. Those Batianpeak Kenyan beans are really "different". I'm thinking of buying the 60 kg bags of green Kenya AA coffee beans.... for the up & coming WWIII..... it will be more valuable than gold. smile.gif

ooo..nice price. I'm using the Hearthware Precision. I had the one with the electronic stuff on it and it lasted me a little over a year, this one has lasted well over a year so far...I'm happy with it. Really Really Really want one that will do more at one time tho. I roast 3 or 4 times a week right now.
I mostly stick with Celebes and do a few lbs of Kona at the same time. Its hard for me to believe that I ever added cream/milk to coffee ala time (never added sugar). Its all black now and sometimes I'll let it cool and still keep drinking it.

We did a lot of searching to find just the right coffeemaker too. I do the hand-drip when we go camping (love the looks I get when I'm doing that), but prefer to use my auto at home. The Melitta Fast-brew is about the best I've found. The water gets to the right temp quickly and it does brew fast!

Sweet Maria's is where I got my first information on home-roasting and I will never go back! As you said...you cant beat the price and the freshness...I even have friends who want me to buy green for them and roast it tongue.gif

I'll look into that blend you recommended...I'm always up for new tastes. smile.gif

Hope others will get some inspiration from this thread. It really doesnt take any time to make, a lot of people buy the whole beans in the stores these days so grinding every day isnt a big deal either....nothing beats the taste!

<--- Has a full-size commercial 12-cup Bunn-O-Matic coffee brewer (that was bought very cheap, of course), and grinds his own beans in a burr grinder. Nothing beats the flavor of fresh black coffee made by pouring scalding hot water over fresh ground beans at a rate of 12 cups every 2 minutes. :D But maybe fresh roasted would be a little better yet?

I have not yet tried roasting my own beans, but I am intrigued. I have developed a taste for fresh ground Millstone Columbian supremo, but I'm sure that the fresh roasted would probably be better. I also agree, that cream and sugar is for bad coffee.

Coffee is a wonderful thing. Coffee, with some help from Mountain Dew, got me through school.

I use a Bodum Columbia 8-Cup Stainless-Steel Thermal Press Pot. I have had the glass French Presses break on me. I also use an Ibrik/Cezve. It's the ancient way of brewing coffee. Very strong & kinda fun to make. YES..... Coffee can be "fun" to make. About roasting.... it is so EZ that U will wonder Y more ppl don't do it. U don't even need to purchase a coffee roaster. If U have a hotair popcorn popper U can use that. They can be found at gargage sales or thrift shops for a couple of bucks. Here is a link for using the Hotair Popcorn Popper for roasting coffee beans. If U do a Google search for Popcorn Popper Coffee Roasting U will find more detailed instructions for roasting coffee beans. Millstone coffee looks to be "flavored" coffee. If U look down the rows of Millstone coffee bins U will discover that they all look the same. If U roast your own coffee beans U know that this cannot be. Now I don't want to be sued for defamation of Millstone coffee beans.... but.... my guess is they R cheap listless Vietnamese beans that R heavily flavored. Believe me.... U haven't tasted coffee unless it is fresh roasted from coffee beans that R from the various parts of the world from which they R advertised. Coffee beans look "different" depending upon where they R picked. Ethiopian coffee beans look different from Guatemalan. Millstone coffee all looks the same & the "french roast" is not roasted to a "french roast". KONA...... U buy Kona beans.... I'm too cheap to buy Kona beans for everyday use. blink.gif Has anyone tried a Moka/Stovetop espresso coffee maker? It is not a true espresso..... but it will definitely do the job.... knock your socks off if U drink too much. Lurkers..... yeah U.... if U drink coffee try roasting your own beans. IT IS EZ! And, it is much cheaper. $4/lb versus the $8/lb that U currently pay for supermarket "gourmet" coffee beans. It only takes approx. 8min to roast enough beans for a couple of days.
