I'm new to the dvd burning scene, and I am having trouble figuring out which disks are crap, and which are diamonds in the rough. I have of course looked at dvdrhelp's database, but that has become so large that it does not always reflect the appropriate disks (some ritek disks on the site are listed as both purple and silver, both from the same purchasing website), and some reviews are just old.
Is it possible for those who have burned much to state where they got their disks, how much, media code, and impressions of quality? I am a cheap skate, and don't want to pay more than $1 per disk, but the only place this seems possible is online. Of course, if enough replies come in, this won't be a 'for me' thread, but a resource for all bs'ers.
I'm probably not much help since I just burned my first ones this week. I was given some Memorex and they seem to work fine in my Sony burner. I burned a DVD-RW and a couple of DVD-R's. I would not use Memorex CD-R's because I had trouble with them in the past. But, these DVDs worked great.

At the moment, online seems to be the only way to get dvd blanks under $1. Just buy in bulk of 100 disks which is worth spending compared to the outrageous prices at the local stores.
I've been using Memorex 4X DVD+R. I haven't had any problems. I got two 25 packs for under $35 at
OD a few weeks ago. I had a $15 off $75 in-store coupon and bought the media with another item I later resold. The media would have been $50 otherwise.
This past Saturday I helped a friend buy a 50 pack for $50 at
BB (also Memorex 4X DVD+R). We split them.
The prices on blank media have come down alot in the past months and I'd expect the trend to continue. Blank CD-R's exhibited the same pricing trends we are seeing with Blank DVD's.
