Hey all. I'm starting work again on two sites, one personally and one for the school. Both are about music and will have similar elements. I'd like recommendations for two things I plan to use on the pages.

Quick info on both sites (skip if you wish): The personal site has a outdated site currently up and has been going through redesign after redesign. It's hosted on e-rice and does support PHP. The school site has a very basic placeholder page up, and they've asked me to give it a shot if I wanted to. I've never had access to the server yet and have no idea what it will support.

What I'm looking for is a recommendation on some basic way to edit/display text through a web interface. It's a bit hard to explain... kind of like a blog interface, but much more basic. If anyone's seen any sites I've made, they know that I tend to use a lot of iFrames. That won't be any different here.

The idea is that there is a "next performance" and "headline"-type section as iFrames of their own so it's easy to find when info is needed quickly. I need it editable through a web interface because a) it's easier to update, and more importantly cool.gif the people that will update this at the school may not know how to edit and upload HTML pages. I realize there's a way to do this through Flash, but I'm trying to avoid it as I'm trying to keep it as compatible with all systems as I can.

The other thing is a basic calendar of events that's also controled with a web interface. Nothing too fancy, just something that can display peformance dates as links on a calendar, and when the day is clicked more info is shown. The idea is for the user to be able to locate events quickly and figure out when, where, and what time.

There's been many times this info could have come in helpful for students this year, so I've decided to try and implement them onto the school site. Same goes for my personal site. Any suggestions as to how I should go about this would be great. Thank you! smile.gif

Some ppl really love PHPnuke. In case you're not familiar, it is a portal that allows you to easily edit the content of the page. I'm pretty sure it has a calendar included, but I'm not certain.

For calendars, you can find some simple ones here:

And of course, you can find any free scripts you want at:

I have the beginnings of a PHP/MySQL calendar system that:
1) displays a monthly calendar
2) allows an admin to enter events
3) displays a list of events
4) displays a detailed view of an event.

It is still in the very beginning stages, but I plan to expand it some more over the next few months. If you're interested and know PHP/MySQL, it is a very solid base to work with.

Thanks for the links. I've decided to go with Calendric.com (remotely hosted) for the calendar because a) I don't know what scripts the school server can support, and cool.gif I don't want to be responsible for what happens to the server because of the script.

I'm still trying to look for some type of quick and dirty blog-type system... I think I found one, but I still have to figure out how to implement it. It needs to do auto-archiving, as I won't have much time to deal with things like that.

Thanks again. smile.gif
