If I were you, I would go to IBM T40, T41 or R41 with centrino tech.
I too recommend IBM, but only because they're solid as a rock, they've got great customer service, and have a good warranty (3 years).
They are rather pricey, though, but imagine what happens when a component of your laptop breaks down. You can't really just go out and get the parts and replace them by yourself... Of course, then, you do have to worry about them getting obsolete, but I'm still quite happy with my Thinkpad (> 3 years now, I think
