A simple configuration change to reduce logging to increase performance.

How to improve the performance of your new HP TouchPad

At that price, I'm actively trying to think of an excuse to buy one of these :-)

(Probably not for use as a tablet, since I already have an ipad)

Hurry before it's cancelled.
New HP TouchPad owners go get your free 50GB of lifetime cloud storage
Go to the HP App Catalog.
Search for "box.net"
You should see an entry for "Box for TouchPad - 50 GB FREE", for free.
There's another box.net app that costs $0.99, if you search for just "box". Don't use that one.

Now all I need is a TouchPad to put them on. tongue.gif Haven't had any luck getting any orders to ship.

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble with this post. I think I'm missing something with these tablets. I can understand people snatching up the tablets due to the low prices, but how long are these devices going to be useful?

HP has said that the future of webOS will be for use in appliances and vehicles. Will HP continue to support these tablet devices that they're dumping on the market? And that's what they're doing....dumping them on the market, i.e. getting rid of them because the product wasn't selling. I agree with HP. If it ain't selling, get rid of it, take your loss and move on. HP is changing with the times and getting out of businesses where it can't compete or have very low profit margins.

What about developers? Will they continue to develop apps for webOS &/or support current apps as they get older? Compared to iOS and Android there aren't many apps for webOS to begin with (not looking for a quality vs. quantity discussion wink.gif ).

Unless I'm missing something, I think these tablets will become expensive paperweights very quickly. Personally I think $100 is better spent taking my wife out for a nice dinner smile.gif

The hope is that Android build will be successfully ported to these tablets, effectively allowing them to have a future. WebOS and Android are both Linux based OSes, so there are high hopes of an Android port succeeding.

That's what I'm betting on.

In fact, there are now reports from two different people that they've received Touchpads that actually had Android loaded on them instead of WebOS!

One of the guys did a full system dump to a file and passed it along to the people developing a useful Android port to the Touchpad:

My son was just telling me today that he had seen them for sale on ebay with Android preloaded on them. Although 2.2.1 is already dated. My Acer Iconia Tab from last week's Target (and every other stores') deal came with Android 3.0 and on initial boot updated itself to 3.1 with Flash 10.1 and went from full 720P to 1080P. These tabs can be quite a nice substitute if you don't want to change your Sprint plan to the new Android smart phone premium data plans. I talked to several CSRs from Sprint and told them that I can't see almost tripling my monthly charges just to get a new phone that has unlimited data on 4G when I already have unlimited 3G on my Touch Pro 2 that I can port to my Acer Netbook with a data cable, and now with the Acer Iconia Tablet I can do the same only over BlueTooth. Since it will be sometime before we can get 4G here in the sticks and I really dislike browsing on a small 4.x inch screen. The last CSR was really nice and said since my grandfathered account plan has over $150 worth of features for around $60 for two phones I would be crazy to give it up as you can't get it back once you change to another. And she agreed that the way to go was to get a MiFi 4G card to use when in 4G areas and hot spot it to the old phones and the Acer Tablet, at least until they start warning about the unlimited 4G going to a tiered system instead just like AT&T and Verizon. She said then to jump on a current premium unlimited 4G plan to remain grandfathered under it instead. (they have had meetings talking about the upcoming switch to tiered unlimited usage, probably in a year or around nextSpring. So something to keep in mind. So for me my connected tablet is just like having an oversized Android phone that can do almost everything in a format I can see and keep in the truck's armrest.

I really like the Google Stars app. Great for finding the meteor showers and showing the constelations.

Speeding up the HP Touchpad.

Take a look at this post. Scroll down to the part that starts with "Now that the touchpad is up to date, it's time to take it to the next level.". My touchpad is noticably faster now (& overclocked to 1.5 GHz too!)
