I have an RCA DCM235 which has performed well for me, but I have been paying $10/month to Charter for it, and I am long overdue to buy my own. I have had cable service for 4 years now, and the reason I leased to begin with was so I could get free modem upgrades. This worked to my favor, because I started out with a COM21 analog (non-DOCSIS) cable modem, then about 2 years ago it was replaced with this RCA DOCSIS-compliant modem when they upgraded their network (Charter tech support also said was this was the best modem for their network).

I could buy this same model for around $20 with shipping, but wanted to research for newer models that might be better optimized for the Charter Pipleline network. I am looking for some good sites that review cable modems. TIA

Go to http://www.broadbandeports.com and go to the forum for your ISP. The people who hand out there are very knowledgeable and can recommend a cable modem for you.

Do a search on their forums also. You may come across some posts recommending the best modem for your ISP.

alan is right, check that site. generally the only restrictions are that it be a docsis modem. which basically every modem is. surfboards are pretty good.

company I troubleshoot for has ALOT of VPN users. From experience, I do not like the RCA modems. They have been more problem prone than others.
Myself, I have a Scientific Atlanta WebStar (only problems I have had is when service is down)
We work alot with the Surfboard modems and they seem to be very reliable.

Hope this helps.
I have been looking to do the same thing. Stop leasing the modem and purchase one.
was thinking about the d-link but not familiar with thier modems. :o( and too lazy to go looking for reviews :o(

I have the Motorola SB4200 SURFboard Cable Modem, owned, not leased. I've been happy with it.
