I have a significant amount of Office Depot rewards to be used, and have decided I will upgrade my bedroom TV. The two options available to me are the Samsung P2770HD and the LG M2762D. Price isn't a determining factor, as neither will require any out of pocket. I haven't owned either brand, and quite frankly don't know enough about the pros and cons of various LCD TVs to make much of an informed decision. If it matters, my programming source is DirecTV, and the only other component that will be connected to it is a DVD player.

One plus for the LG is that the P&L warranty is 3 years. The warranty might not be that great if one is required to pay to send it back and a refur unit is sent back.

We've had a Samsung in our living room for a couple of years with no problems...even with grandchildren messing with the buttons...not famililar with LG as a TV, but I've been happy with the cell phone I've had for 3 years...

Personally, I don't think you'll go wrong with either of these choices picture wise - they both look very nice. You didn't say if you use external speakers -- if not, I'd make the choice based upon which unit sounds better as I suspect they'll both be weak in the speaker department.

With all other things being relatively equal, in the end I myself would probably elect to go with the unit with the longer manufacturer warranty.

BTW, the LG doesn't have component inputs if you happen to need them for an older DVD player or DirecTV receiver.

Differences (already mentioned, just summing it up)
LG warranty 3 years, Samsung 1 year.
LG has 2 HDMI inputs, Samsung has 1.
Samsung has component inputs, LG does not.
Samsung is a little larger than the LG.

I don't see specs for it, but I would go with the one that has a backlit remote smile.gif Or I would choose by the inputs I needed.

Also before you buy go to a store that has both and look at the picture on each to see which looks best to you. Many times the Samsung will win out in the picture test but the best looking Samsungs have a highly reflective, almost glass like, screen. This does give a sharper picture especially in the windowless interior of a retail store but also will reflect any ambient light sources in your bedroom like the sunshine coming from a bedroom window. The resulting glare can make the TV's picture hard to see without closing all the window shades.

The hardest color for any flat screen to show is red. When looking at just one TV in a room it may appear that the red you see on the screen looks normal, but put something red next to the TV or compare the picture to a CRT TV in the same room and you will see that LCDs produce a more maroon color than a red one. So while looking at any prospective TV's picture be sure to see how the red looks on it.

It used to be that the hardest colors for a TV to replicate were black and white but the new flat panels with the very high contrast ratios (some over 1,000,000/1) have no problems reproducing very dark blacks and very light whites. But when comparing different screens differences in blacks, whites and reds are what to look for.
