I hear plasma are abd if you have kids adn the TV will be within reach.

I think LCD is the way to go.. such a clean picture.

Both look good to me. I'd get whichever one is the better deal.

I'd purchase from someplace where it's easy to return for any reason though.

We have both a plasma and LCD and I would recommend the LCD. If you do go with the plasma get the extended warrenty - we only got the 1 year extended plan and 1 month after that expired we had to spend over $500 to get the power board fixed. The repair place said that if it was the LCD with the same problem that it would have been around $200. Before anybody says it - if we would have known that it was going to cost that much up front to fix the plasma we would have just bought a new one.

I've been told by an independent shop owner that some HDTV are plague with problems and getting schematics can be a PIA. Crack the screen and there's a good chance that a replacement cost more then the TV itself. I went the cable card route and purchased the extend warranty, except my model can't be worked on by the yokels at the local stores, if it needs repairs. Bring it back to where I purchased it and wait about a month to be returned.

While I wouldn't buy a re-furb, buy cheap and shop for a 3rd party warranty provider with a good rep.

The differences between the two have narrowed a lot in the last few years. Picture quality, energy consumption, etc. Plasma has the price advantage right now, but LCD prices are dropping like a rock as well.

Use a credit card that extends your warranty an extra year so that you can avoid buying an extended warranty.

Thanks everyone. I was looking at the one at Dell and it was sold out yesterday. Was hoping to get one without fighting the crowds on BF for one. Can't wait to see what Walmart is going to have.

My Visa Signature card offers this perk as well. The warranty will be extended for up to one additional year at no charge on anything (with certain exclusions) purchased with the Visa Signature card.
