I use Gmail on my iPhone (2G with 3.0 firmware) using the built in mail application.

Sometimes when I'm looking at my mail, I'll accidentally tap on the spam folder because the screen is kind of sensitive sometimes. After I do that, my phone will annoyingly alert me of all new incoming spam. The only way I know how to stop this is to delete my Gmail account, power off my phone, then set up my account all over again.

There has to be an easier way than this. Does anyone know a way to not have it alert me when I get new spam? Is there an app for that? lol.gif

Hunh. I've never accidentially clicked the spam folder, but I do have my gmail accounts set up through the mail app. Do you mean that it vibrates all the time because it is downloading all the spam?

Maybe delete them out of your gmail more?

I don't know why, but I end up clicking my spam folder about once every other month. Even if I were to delete the spam from Gmail, if I happen to get any new spam, my phone would alert me that there's a new unread (spam) message. bang.gif

I guess I can just leave the mail app open to my inbox the whole time since I only use one account and I have my Gmail account set to check other accounts. Or, hmmm... maybe I can set up a filter in Gmail that automatically marks spam as read (link)... that'll probably stop the phone from alerting me of new spam since it'll already be marked as read.

It sounds to me that you have "unread" spam. Once you clear the spam folder you should be alright - unless you already tried that.

once in a while I will hit my sent messages and it will pull the last 25, sometimes setting off the unread mail icon, also using 2g 3.0 (jailbroke)

Any easy way to get rid of the Gmail spam folder count within Mail is to set up a filter in the Gmail web interface. In the "Has the words field," enter in:spam and "mark as read" as the action (if you don't have the "mark as read" option, try changing the language to English (US)). The spam folder count should then be gone.

You can refine the search further if you wish by adding words to the "Doesn't have" field, (e.g. your name, your work etc...). This will then highlight any messages that may have been marked as spam erroneously. Now if only someone can figure out a way to do the same with the All Mail folder!
