the first item listed is what came with the laptop. do I need that again or can I get the $12 one listed second?

12.99 item is only part of it..check ebay for the first item and off brand maybe even cheaper

Are you saying that you still *have* the first item listed? Or are you just saying that you remember that it originally came with that?

If the latter, then IamAddicted is right, you must get the entire AC Adapter. The cheapest I found was this BIN listing at ebay ($10.73, free shipping). There's also this 3rd-party Amazon seller for $19.85.

OK, we bought 2 Dell 2200 laptops a couple of years ago. I got 1 and DS got one for graduation. Mine isperfect, I have the original AC adapter, etc.
He lives on campus and got a new laptop- so he gave this one back. We are giving it to his little sisters to use after we reformat it and set it up.
I always have mine plugged in with its original AC adapter while in use, so sharing the cord would be real inconvenient.
DS's laptop AC adapter broke. He didn't bother to give it to us. Apparently malfunction is common according to reviews at Dell.
