Full Version: Need help burning a corrupted mpeg to DVD

I have a couple of shows recorded from my MythTV that I'd like to store onto DVD. Unfortunately, dvdauthor (the program I usually use to do this) is failing on these files.

I've copied the mpeg file to my Windows machine. VLC plays it fine (as does MythTV itself). Windows Media Player refuses to play it, saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Sonic MyDVD also refuses to load the file.

Any ideas of a program I can use to either "fix" the semi-corrupted file, or read the file as-is to burn it to a DVD?

I had a similar file once that I was able to burn to DVD using DVDFlick. Of course, some others haven't worked with it, so YMMV....

So far as fixing it is concerned, you said it plays correctly in VLC Player. In addition to streaming, VLC Player supposedly can also transcode files into other formats:

You could always transcode it to another format to burn to DVD (or then attempt to transcode back to mpeg to fix whatever is "nonstandard" about your current mpeg file).

Might be worth a shot, anyway.

edit: I also dimly recall Microsoft last year verfied that Windows contained an implementation of the "broadcast flag" that NBC used to prevent recording of some of their shows. Don't know if this would be a factor, though.

I had tried that, and it worked, but the result was horrible. Terrible quality audio & video.

DVDFlick worked! Thanks! smile.gif

Wow, and it's free software too! It did a perfect job.
