If you hate this pest as much as I do....
Follow these steps!!

Right click the Start menu and select Properties. Click the Start Menu tab. Click the Customize button, then click the Advanced tab. Now just uncheck the box that says Highlight newly installed programs. That'll do it.

That's another one of the annoying features that I turned off shortly after installing XP. I hated having that there because it would always leave them highlighted even if I used them already.

I don't think I've ever seen such a message.

I never liked the "pretty" Start Menu. When I first started using XP I made sure to make things look like old school windows. Plus all that additional GUI garbage just eats up system resources.

Time for a bump. My version of XP never gets rid of that highlighting - it stayed on constantly.
