T-Mobile customers can now disable their text/picture messaging feature entirely (both incoming and outgoing messages)!!! You would only receive messages from T-Mobile, which are free.

NOTE: This does not work for T-Mobile To-Go (prepaid) accounts.

By Phone:
Call 611 to reach T-Mobile Customer Service from your T-Mobile phone
or 800-866-2453 (800-T-MOBILE).
Ask representative to disable your text messaging.

Online:
  • Log In at http://www.t-mobile.com/
  • On the "My Account" tab, click on "Change Services":
  • Check any/all of the following options:
    • Block Instant Messages Block chargeable Instant Messages FREE
    • Block Text and Picture Messages Block chargeable text and picture messages FREE
    • Block Email Block chargeable e-mail FREE
    • Block All Messages Block all chargeable messages

It's really disgusting that incoming texts are charged, when a user often has no control over who is sending them. You can ignore a phone call but you don't have a choice with a text. Anyone can send texts to anyone else, and the cell companies make it easy to do.
