the pc is connected to a router which is also a printer server. there are 2 pc s and one has dsl internet acess and the other one doesnt have dsl access. they can both print with the print server.

so the non dsl connecting pc can print through the server and also acess the internet with a dial up modem. help i cant seem to figure this out. its also on windows 2000. oh and i also ran a virus scanner and it cant detect anything

oh when i connect the dsl modem directly to the pc it does not work.

thanks in advance
Alan
Sounds like one of the PC's may not be configured for DHCP, or, if it is, it's not obtaining the IP address from the router.

Run ipconfig /all from a command prompt and post the results. Also, look at the properties for the network card and see if it's configured for DHCP and that none of the fields contain any numbers.

1) Open Network and Dial-up Connections (Or Right-click on My Network Places and click Properties)

2) Right-click the network connection that you want to configure (probably Local Area Connection Properties), and then click Properties

3) On the General tab (for a local area connection) or a Networking tab (for all other connections), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties

4) Click Obtain an IP address automatically, and then click OK

If you click on the Advanced button of the TCP/IP Properties page before you click ok, it should show DHCP Enabled under IP addresses of IP settings.
