I was informed about a sign-up bonus offer for the Discover More card where I could get $100 back after making $250 in purchases in the first 3 months. Now, I could probably accomplish that just using it for groceries I would be buying anyway.

Of course, the nonexistant annual fee is appealing. And 0% APR for a year is nice as well. It's also offering 0% for 12 months on balance transfers, but I don't have a balance to transfer at the moment, so does anyone know whether this is one of those "upon application only" BT offers?

The 5% cashback sounds great, but does anyone know what purchases this actually applies to? The site states things like travel, gas, resturants, department stores... and gas is the only thing among those that I would use it for regularly, since I don't travel or go to resturants often (2 small children make that difficult) and I only shop at department stores when the kids need new clothes in the spring and fall.

For those of you who may have this card, what is your experience with it?

And for anyone else who's interested in the offer, it seems you must apply at apply.Discovercard.com and use the offer code "DARR", or you can call 1-800-210-9022.

I have two Discover cards, and I like them both, for different reasons.

One carries a large balance, and is at 0% for "life" (an offer they made over a year ago, where you make two tiny purchases per month in order to get 0% "forever" on the large balance). Basically, I pay minimum finance charges on the accumulated $20 or so in tiny purchases ($0.50/month), in order to be able to carry the large balance at 0% for "life" (4 years, really, due to 2% minimum payment), and earn interest on the money in an online money market account.

The other card I actually use. What I do with it, is watch for the 5% "GetMore" promotions (sometimes it is gas, sometimes department stores, or travel, or groceries - usually changes quarterly). I usually max out the 5% "Getmore" promotions, and get 5% back on whatever I buy with it within those promotions. They also have a "clickthrough" online shopping site that gets you 5%+ back on a lot of major online retailers, and it is useful for that.

For everyday purchases outside of the 5% GetMore, and the 5% online shopping, the regular rewards program is not as good as many others, so when I cannot get a promotional 5% cash back with the card, I use another card, such as my 3% cruise card. The sign-up bonus sounds nice though.

Oh interesting, I wasn't aware that it alternated quarterly. So, I suppose if I get approved for this card I ought to use it somewhat like you do and not necessarily as my primary card. Thanks for the info!
