Who the hell ships a motherboard in its original box with nothing more than a USPS Priority Mail Tyvek Envelope securely taped around it???
</RANT>
A quick inspection of the board shows no obvious damage, though (all the capacitors seem intact), and the board did come NIB as described. Also, the board was shipped from here in SoCal and probably was in transit for no more than 50 miles.
All things considered: does anyone think the board is safe to use?

Would you mind telling us, so we can avoid them?

I won't publish the seller's handle publicly (at least not yet), but I'll be more than happy to provide it via PM.
I think its really stupid. But fortunately, I think (IMHO) USPS takes better care of packages than UPS or FEDEX.
If it was UPS or FEDEX, any small package would have been used as a wedge or a doormat.
And please tell us who shipped it. Was it a retailer such as newegg?

Nope, I bought it off eBay (probably my first mistake).
I'll probably fire it up later today.
Was the motherboard secure in its original box? I've had many shipments where a label was slapped to the outside of the original box and there was nothing wrong with the contents. If the box is sturdy and the contents packed properly there shouldn't be any issue.

Yeah, it was pretty secure.
Have you ever purchased an ECS mobo? Those boxes aren't very thick (they're certainly not corrugated cardboard). I mean, I could understand shipping a case, a printer, or something similar in its original box. But a mobo?
I understand your concern.

Well, I hooked the board up, and everything seems to be going well. I'll probably stress test it overnight, just to make sure, though.
Installing the stock hs/f on the board (socket 775) was a real PITA, though. In fact, every time I tried to twist in one of the fasteners, a fastener on the opposite side would pop out. Eventually I had to brute force each fastener on, and it seems to stick without twisting. I'm worried, though, that the heatsink won't hold.
I'll probably go buy a cheapy heatsink/fan combo.
