I've updated the OP with several things -
(1) Added PenFed thanks to gametalent
(2) Added Fidelity Investment Rewards MasterCard, which can give you 1.5% cash back deposited into a fidelity account. This is an excellent choice
(3) Updated the info to reflect the new terms of the AmEx BlueCash card. I've confirmed these new terms were in my recent card statement.
(4) Added USAA thanks to cirrus

Does anyone mind giving me some advice/ideas about credit cards for low-end spenders? I have been using my BofA Visa for a couple years. My credit limit is 3300 and my balance is $2K. Current rate is 9.24%
I like the convenience of being able to transfer $ between my BofA accts so easily, but myabe there is a deal worth switching for?
thanks!

The BankOne card is no longer available, since BankOne is becoming Chase. Here's a list of current Chase cards:
http://www.bankone.com/answers/BolAnswersC...editCards&item=Here are their current cash back card offerings:
Chase Visa® Platinum Business Rebate Card--no annual fee
--up to $35k credit
-- Earn a full 3% cash back** (maximum 20k worth of purchases)
You’ll receive 3% cash back for all business purchases you make at any of these types of stores.
• Restaurants • Office supply stores
• Gas stations • Building supply stores
• Hardware and home improvement centers
That's triple what you'd earn with an ordinary rebate card. And unlike American Express®, you don't have to shop at specific merchants to earn your largest cash rebate.
(not sure how they determine which stores qualify....)-Plus, earn 1% cash back for everything else (no limit!)
BellSouth® Platinum Business MasterCard® with Executive Rewards-same terms as Chase Business Rebate Card. It's just a MasterCard instead.
Chase Flexible RewardsSM Platinum Visa® Business Card--1%, maximum cash reward redemption is $600 per calendar year.
Chase Flexible Rewards SelectSM Platinum Visa® Business Card--1.5% maximum cash reward redemption is $600 per calendar year, but you can call in to waive $59 annual fee and switch to higher redemption levels?
Chase Platinum Visa® Business Card with Free Cash Rewards™--1%, no limit?

Just a simple note on Discover. You can get 5% on both Gasoline (first$1500) & other (first $1500. ) By having 2 cards. One a Gas card & One a std. Plus card. They offerd it to me when I complained that the $1500 ran out too soon.
So Now I get $3000 per year @ 5% & that aint hay at these gas prices.
LOL
Thanks OP for the work

Oh please be carefull & pay em off each month or the interest will kill the "DEAL" & get you in deep!

Appears to be different terms for Amex Platinum Business Cash as well:
Cash Rebate
There is no limit to the amount of cash rewards you are eligible for. Your annual cash reward for purchases at OPEN SavingsSM is up to 5%. Your annual cash reward for all other purchases is up to 2.5%. Once your spending for the year exceeds $15,000, the cash reward for additional purchases at OPEN Savings is 2% and your annual cash reward for all other purchases is 1%.

I got my card that way.
I am filling out the app for the SB card right now.
Look at the space for Tax ID, it says: "(Not Required for Sole-Proprietorship)"
Obviously a sole proprietor doesn't have to have a business name or even be incorporated. So just write "sole proprietor" for "legal business name", and make sure you leave the business name on your card blank, so you don't look like a fool. If you wanted to look like a Fool you would get a Motley Fool card

One more change of note on the AMEX card. Basically, if you EVER don't pay your balance in full now, you get socked with a whole host of finance charges:
So basically if you're late once you'll have to pay finance charges for two months.
MBNA is also changing to this policy (at least for my L.L.Bean card), along with shrinking the grace period from 25 to 20 days.
The other term on our L.L.Bean MBNA card that recently changed was the addition of this:
QUOTE
International Transactions: 3% of the U.S. dollar amount of the transaction, whether originally made in U.S. dollars or converted from a foreign currency.
I just noticed that the Chase Platinum Visa Business Card has it.

American Express Blue Cash
Cash Back Tiers
$0 - $6500 = 0.5% for most spending, 1.0% for everyday purchases
$6500.01 to $50000 = 1.0% for most spending, 5.0% for everyday purchases
Capped after you've spent $50K in one year.
If you spend exactly $50K (with no everyday purchases), you'll earn $685 which is a return of 1.37%
QUOTE
If you make no "everyday" purchases, this card beats a 1% card after you've spent $13K ($32.50 for the first $6.5K, $97.50 for next 6.5K). Obviously the more everyday purchases you make the better you will do. The reward is credited to the account once per year on the anniversary of your sign-up date.
Don't get how the OP arrives at this figure, because as I understand it, at $13K of spending, your rebate would be $97.50 ($32.50 for first 6.5K + $65 for next 6.5K)

The way VISA/MC charged for foreign currency conversions has completely changed. VISA/MC used to charge 1% on top of what your bank charged. The banks varied, some with 0% (MBNA) and some very high, as much as 5% or more. Now VISA/MC doesn't charge the 1%, it's rolled into the bank number. So you were always getting 1% on your LL Bean MBNA. But MBNA has upped it to 3% now for most of their cards, so that is an increase. I'm just trying to clarify it went for 1-3% for you, not 0-3%.
I've updated the OP adding most of the info from previous posts. I added a new CC, from National City, which has various "everyday purchases" tiers. The main highlight is 2% for restaurant and 3% for video rental purchases. Good for those two categories, although it's only 4% for gas (compared to 5% with other cards) and you need to get $100 in rewards before you get your cash back.
I updated the two business reward CCs that are in the OP. I did not add any of the new ones provided by wurlybird9 mostly because it's time consuming and there are so many business reward CCs, and also because I think the majority of people are interested in the regular CCs. I added a link to wurlybird9's post in the OP, and if anyone else wants to summarize business reward CCs I'll gladly C&P it into the OP or link to your post.

Comments on the above:
The AAA Card is may still be available here
https://wwwa.applyonlinenow.com/USapp/Ctl/r...sourceCode=UA5X. On the plus side, they credit the cash back on gas purchases directly to the card. On the minus, they changed the terms several months back, so that the "5%" on gas purchases (and only gas at the pump, not store items) is limited to the extent that the credit is less than 2% of the total card purchases that period. So, if you only use it for gas, you really only get 2% back. Not terrible, but "false" advertising.
The Chase Toys-R-Us card also includes 1% back for every dollar spent outside of their stores. But, you only get a Store certificate that cannot be redeemed for cash and if you return an item you don't get that portion of the credit back either.
For now, Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® MasterCard® is a good deal: 5% cash back on purchases at supermarkets, drug stores and gas stations, plus 1% on all other purchases ---but the downside: up to $300 per year, only when you have accumulated $50 or more and you must then request a check - but you can do it online without talking to a pushy sales rep.
Oh and BTW, that $300 limit is not so hard to reach: say you spend $500 per month between the supermarket and gas station. That's $6,000 per year, at 5% back there's your $300 max reward. See how sooner you'll reach the limit than the $30,000 spend on 1% purchases only. Leaves no room for any other purchases, so you'll need another cash back card for everything else. It's getting hard to keep track of what card is for what
Advanta Business Platinum with Cash Back (MasterCard) seems to have MUCH better rewards now with no "up to" wording but straight up 5% on: gas, office supplies, computer equipment, utilities, cell phone and Internet services and 1% on all other purchases. I have about 20 credit cards and each one of them I use for different purpose so I maximize my rewards, i.e. Amazon VISA card only at Amazon.com (3% back), Circuit City VISA at Circuit City stores and online (5% back), Citi Dividend Rewards (5% back on gas, groceries, pharmacy), AMEX Gold on large purchases etc. So just grab a few specific credit cards and maximize their benefits.
If I could get only one, I would choose the CitiBank Dividend card. 5% back on groceries, gas, drugstores and 1% on everything else. That's a pretty nice deal for most people.
Agreed. Just keep in mind $300 limit on the rewards ($30,000/year in 1% category or $6,000 in 5% category).

if you have too many CC, doesn't that affect your credit score?
Depends. What matters is income to debt ratio, not how many credit cards you have. So if you have 20 credit cards with very low balances that you pay off every month, your credit score goes up. HOWEVER, if you have the same 20 credit cards with high balances (utilizing over 50% of your credit line), then it negatively impacts your credit score.
QUOTE(Hero @ 6-15-05, 3:27pm)
if you have too many CC, doesn't that affect your credit score?
i have over $50k in credit (after this last batch of rewards CCs), and barely any yearly income (college student). since I only keep about 3-4k in debt on 0% CCs, and have never made a late payment, I have consistently watched my credit score go up.
moral of the story: you can have as many credit cards as you want as long as you pay your balance in full and don't take too much debt.

Lots of frequent flyer programs let you enroll your card in their dining program. They can be added onto any credit card, and can sometimes be pretty good. Often 5 miles per dollar spent at the restaurant. It's a good idea to do this regardless of the card you use.
The National City Everyday Rewards Elite Visa gives you 2% back at restaurants up to $750 in monthly purchases. Also 3% on movie rentals and movie tickets. See the OP for details.
I've heard of various promos from CitiBank, MBNA, Discover, etc that give you a large % back at restaurants (5-10%) for a limited time promotion, but I don't know of any that are permanently set at > 2%. Anyone else know?
EDIT: Or maybe get a card that lets you enroll in iDine (www.idine.com) and you can get a pretty large % back, but I think there's an annual fee. Worth it if you dine out a lot and your restaurants are on the list, though.
Here's a link to a Discover promotion through November -

Transmedia/Idine has been replaced with Rewardsnetwork. Same basic deal, but many restaurants vary the rebate days or exclude weekends.
As to dining cash back cards, Amex-Costco: 3% hotels/rental cars, 2% restaurants, 1% everywhere else paid as an annual Costco credit check which CAN be redeemed for cash at the Costco service desk. And, yes, you use the Amex card with Rewardsnetwork and sometimes get away with using Restaurants.com certificates also.

Updated the OP with the Amex One card. I don't know about their fees. Remember, the 1% reward you get is tax-free (it's a "rebate" on purchases and therefore is a reduction in cost rather than a taxable gift), but the interest you earn in the savings account will be taxable.
