I would personally upgrade the screen to a higher resolution one, and also the processor to a T7xxx version.

The Vostro 1700 is awfully big, too - make sure he wouldn't mind hauling around a 7-8lb laptop.

I personally have an Inspiron 1520, which IMO is a great laptop. I am not a (PC) gamer, but if I were, I would think it would be more than sufficient, especially for WoW, which can run on more mid-range hardware.

Also, the price seems a little high to me. I know that it says MS Office is a $0.00 upgrade, but I think it is still wrapped into the price. If you can, you might want to wait so that your son can buy that at school. School discounts on Microsoft software are pretty significant.

Assuming the goal is for the laptop to last through all or most of the four years, one of Dell's accident policy plan is a good idea. Base your software on what the school has or plan to install on its system.

He does not need any software like word or stuff like that they give that to them at school and anti virus as well.

my price limit is around 1,200 I am not stuck on dell he would liks a sony but they seem to be a lot more money then the dell's

I know his school offers 10% off dells certain models that is.
